Old school Pitt type of player. I could see him committing soon.

Exactly. Some time ago I thought it would be best to see how he performs his senior season and to see what kind of growth he has offensively before officially offering. After looking at this kids summer numbers including the EYBL and the Peach Jam and comparing his numbers with other top 150 players both that we recruited and other top 150 players, he is a Top 150 player right now without question even with average shooting ability based off what he did. His rebounding, assist to turnover ratio, steal numbers and defensive ability put him there with his 6'7 height, elite athletic ability, and large wingspan. As I said earlier, he has a lot of Toney in his game.

For anyone curious, here is a look at Buchanan vs Chisom Okpara this summer for example and Okpara is a Top 150 national recruit and borderline 4 star. Both played for 2 of the best teams in the country all summer long.

Buchanan

6.9ppg
6.3rpg ( best on team durant)
1.4 assist ( best assist to turnover ratio on team durant)
.5 turnover
1 steal per game
44.5% FG
12% 3 point (1-8 shooting the 3, small sample size)

Okpara

8.7ppg
4 rpg
1.3 assist
2.6 turnover
.6 steal
51% FG
33% 3 point (1-3 shooting the 3, again, small sample size)

If Buchanan developed any kind of a legit jump shot and could do some scoring away from the basket more often besides dribble penetration, he could see a very steady rise between now and next spring in the national rankings. He also has the other intangibles to get a much larger offer sheet with an improved shot if he works on it.

Also, I like the fact this kid wants to play smart and is coachable, understands the importance of defense, rebounding, and controlling the basketball without turning it over while playing hard. Ironically, this is him talking about those things in the middle of the summer. Most kids just want to impress with scoring. He is the guy taking the other key responsibilities to help his team win. Has nice upside as a player and I want him with Mintz.
