OK, are there seriously any real Pitt fan that wants Narduzzi fired?

At a minimum, Narduzzi certainly isn’t beyond criticism or reproach, as he is treated by Stache and several other Lair slappies. He makes a lot of mistakes-far more than a 5th year head coach should make. He hasn’t won much. His recruiting has been lackluster especially on the offensive side. He spent 5 years to put a capable defense on the field but hasn’t been able to put a capable offense on it for the past 3 years. His program has been inconsistent, to be kind about it.

hell we even blew the coin toss against our arch rival last year. You think the player who communicates the election to the ref gets to make the decision on whether to kick or receive and which end to take?

I would turn this around on the Staches out there: why don’t they tell us what’s so great about Narduzzi, rather than just blindly defending him against criticism? What makes him such a keeper? What has he accomplished to this point that has you so pleased with him?
1) Pitt is an 8-5 type program with a good coach. Narduzzi is close to that right now, so let’s see how this year finishes.
2) Nobody is going to land Top 15 type recruiting classes on a regular basis. NOBODY
3) He does make mistakes within game day decisions. He is an emotional, defensive minded coach that isn’t thinking clearly at times. He needs to improve in this area. I think he is too wound up for his own good.
4) He has not lost any WTF games. I consider losing to Akron or YSU at Home, or Ohio on the road as examples of this.
5) The team plays hard and does not quit. The players seem to like playing for him. I have seen teams quit under previous coaches not that long ago.
6) He has a pretty good staff overall.

yeah, I'd kind of like to hear your rebuttal on those points. Why not go for it and respond?

My only rebuttal would be #4. I'd say the home loss to a terrible UNC team in 2017, and even the loss last year to UNC would qualify as a WTF moments. Those were two very bad teams.

And I agree that Narduzzi is shaping up to be an 8-5 type coach. Which is fine if he has the capability to turn in that one "great" season where you finish ranked in the top 15, win 11 games and win a bowl. Doesn't have to be every year, but the potential for it, is it there? I thought he had that in him and I thought either this year or next would be that year. Still possible, but Miami game was a real kick to the teeth that make you doubt it can happen.

And when you look at some of the teams that have achieved this, it is not an impossible goal by any stretch of the imagination.

if pitt averages 8 wins a year the rest of my life, I would be thrilled. It would mean there would be some 5 and 6 win seasons, but also probably some 10 win seasons.

The issue is that pat looks like he will be someone that caps at maybe 8 wins due to the inability to recruit offensive talent. THAT IMO is not good enough.

Also, if we go 7-5 this year, given how soft the schedule is going to end up being, that is a massive fail. We are in one of the worst divisions in college football and we can’t count on VT and Miami sucking forever as they are sleeping giants IMO.

I hope this isn't the case, then we are looking at Wanny redux. Do you fire someone who produces 7-8 win seasons but realizing your chances of hitting 11 wins and a top 15 ranking doesn't really exist.

Need to let this season play out. Can still finish ranked which would be a very good season. And then next season is the key

The challenge for me is this: in the Big East, it was clear what the goal is. Win the conference. Amazingly we almost never did that.

In the ACC, I do think it's pretty unrealistic to expect in an era where Clemson is so dominant to say our goal is to just go out and win that conference, especially with any regularity. So what's our goal? Something sort of arbitrary like 10 wins? Win a quality bowl game every X years? Win the division Y times over Z years? I don't really know. I do agree next year is very important for Narduzzi, assuming that we don't win the division this year.

A goal has to be a top 25 (really should be top 15) final ranking at least once every 4 years. That should not be that difficult for a program with our recruiting base, resources and tradition. I don't have the time now to find it but the list of teams that has finished in the top 25 since we last did (2009) is not exactly a who's who of CFB.

I would say if this year and next year end with no top 25 FINAL ranking, after 6 years into a regime it is time to consider your options.

What you guys described is the classic mistake others have made

See Syracuse... for the most part Paul P wasn’t a bad coach (better than us most of the time) and Cuse got rid of him

Haven’t been the same since

On the other hand VT had some lean times with Beamer before becoming a decent program in the 90-00s

This would be a good topic/thread unto itself. I'm still not sure.

or it could mean Pitt wins 7to 8 games year after year... after year... after year... after year...

with a 6 game win season and a 9 game win season sprinkles in each decade.
