Well said.
I get pulling for this team, it is playing hard and it does seem to have chemistry. I said we could get better if Burton shook of the dust, Horton came back and we played Jeffress and Collier less.
All of that is well and good, but is delusion to think if everything had gone right this team could have won 20 games. The talent is just not there. Everyone is extremely inconsistent and there is no margin for error. Talk about this team with everyone coming back being good is insane.
it also seems that people are trying to mitigate how bad this team is or elevate them somehow by kicking the dead horse that was the 2017-2018 team. (See thread title)
That team will live in Pitt infamy, but let’s have a little context versus this team When kicking them:
That team in my mind, played a harder schedule, OC and league. While this team has suffered personnel losses in Nike and Horton, I think the loss of Luther for all league games was a bigger loss. He was the only semi competent big. It would be the equivalent of losing Hugley for this team.
Finally, regarding the overall rosters. 2017-2018 was the second year of the regime and first year of the rebuild, This is the fourth year of this regime and third year of the (first) rebuild.
in conclusion, this team needs evaluated by itself, not comparison. That evaluation needs based on its entire body of work, not a five game snap shot. The teams needs evaluated on its talent and future secured talent.
Capel needs evaluated on his entire body of work.
I have enjoyed watching the last five games. Horton may be coming back soon.
I am for letting the rest of the season play out, but would be lying if I said I expected the rest of the season to look like the last 5 games. Talent and consistency seems very likely to bite us more often than not.
