Does it look that crazy now, given what the team looks like with Horton being back to full duty, and if Nike was back? Saying we could have 17 or 18 wins right now is not in the least crazy.

The biggest knock against this program and coach remains the same as it was all season....Capel can't recruit. Recruiting is the lifeblood of college sports and Capel has failed miserably. Now if he can somehow sign a top 50 elite 2022 kid out of high school and get a few very high quality transfers from the portal, he can start to salvage this program, assuming he can keep them.

I think Capel could at least have guided the senior Pitt team to a tourney birth the year after Dixon left. The transfer portal changed the game and had odd timing. If Johnson, Toney, McGowens could not have transferred and he brought in Gueye, Hughley, Horton, Burton, etc., that is a pretty solid 7-8 this year. I am willing to wait one more year. People wanted Duzz gone as early as the third game this year and chances are we get another Stallings and not an improvement.
I tend to agree with most of what you said. I'm also willing to wait another year, partly because I don't think Capel is going anywhere and we have to give him another year. Play the hand you're dealt.
Capel is better than Stallings, but a middle school coach is better than the sleepy Stallings we had for 2 years. So that isn't saying much.
But as I said before, Capel's downfall is and continues to be his total lack of recruiting. Maybe he can get lucky in the portal and get another Gueye or Burton, but not likely. I love the way Gueye plays on both ends of the floor and regret that we only have him for 1 year. I don't have much confidence in Capel's recruiting ability until he proves otherwise and can KEEP the guys he does recruit.
If we made the change and dumped Capel, I don't think "chances are we get another Stallings". We would likely get someone at least equivalent to Capel and hopefully better.
For what purpose? It's childish and infantile and proves nothing except your immaturity. It certainly doesn't prove that Gary is wrong and you're right. People are here with different opinions and we all share them. If you don't agree with someone, tell them your opinion. Unless someone is blatantly attacking you or making threats, who cares what they think?
