I'm one of the people very few, who focus on interior line play when they are watching a football game. After Years of playing and coaching and just being interested is a habit I unfortunately can't break. After reaching 2019 season due to covid, I have come to the following conclusions.
1. I like Borbs about as much as I liked jim Huber, a lot.. He is a good eye for and is a good developer of talent and can communicate well with his kids.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, Peterson was not a terribly effective coach and had he not have had kids trained by Huber, it would have been worse when he got there . I believe that he had a lackluster eye for player talent, and could not attract the talent that Borbs and Huber landed because his coaching accument was below that of Borbs and Huber. and he wasn't effective at developing talent.
When Borbs got her, the Cupboard was really really bare. Bodies but no players.
The last two years, he has made proverbial chicken salad out of chicken %#+! In 2018 and 2019, he pieced together a line with two EX DL men, two grad transfers( one was pleasently serviceable and the other was a revolving door statue and some really green but talented kids who played well before they should have. One of the years he actually led the division in rushing but pass pro kinds sucked. Last year it was the opposite. It took him a few years to rebuild the Cupboard. I think he's developed some good quality in starters and has some depth. I. Saw improvement over the term of the year, which is what you want to see with a young group. Generally Borbs is a really good coach, who was what we were missing for first few years, which brings me to conclusion 2....
2. So his starting 5 are Warren, Hargrove, morressy, kradel and houy with second line players of van Lynn and the grad transfer kid from 1AA, zuboveck, concalves, and Drexler as well as any of the other kids who develop.
Warren, if he stays healthy I think will be a beast this year. The mental part of LT is pretty tough for. Some guys and I think he's got everything else. Just needs to play fast and aggressive, which is what progress will be the difference for him fro. Last year..
Hargrove is a good solid guard who is a mobile and heady road grater. What you want in a guard. Morressy is morressy. Love the kid. Warrior and a really good player. Dispute his size, I think he could play on Sundays with the right team. Kradel... I love this kid too.. He reminds me of flashes of Lumpy.... A throwback shot and a beer guy who will just line up. And kick your ass.. He moves well and has a really good head.. He'll like see the league as well... Houy... If he is healthy, he's gonna be a good one I think too. He was a tackle playing guard all last year and I think that coupled with a bum shoulder limited his effectiveness and he got a bum rap last year. I think he's going to be a good tackle this year, with Lynn and a few. Others behind, we have seasoned depth, which we didn't have the last two years. A better supporting cast will also help, my next and final point...
3 running backs and other skill guys were lackluster at best and I think Whipple and Borbs did a really good job doing the best with what they had...
French was a good receiver/athlete and the marquis guy In a poorly producing offense. Shocky was young but flashed some. Mack was inconsisntant and Matthew's was a good blocker....These short passes and fink and dunks allow the defense to play the run hard. Too. Many dropped passes in key moments which put. More pressure on the OL. AND OUR TIGHT ENDS SUCKED(nothing further needs to be said about these guys)
.. The running backs we had last year were nothing like the tandem of hall and olison. Minimal explosiveness last year and I think they were a C last year. No one who I saw play back there I think is a D1 marquis back. They may need more time but hopefully a few of them step up. Poor running back play magnifies a mediocre OL....
It's my opinion that we will have a much better year up front. If we can stay healthy and beat this covid, I wouldn't be surprised to win 9 this year. This is likely the best team we have seen in 25 years and the OL HAS A GOOD CHANCE TO BE REALLY GOOD. PAHND EM DAAAAAAAAAHNNNNNN!!!!!
