Immediately.

Three Power 5 openings at mid-season. One at a blueblood, one at a good SEC program. And then of course there's Marykand, which has never been anyone's destination job but which might open up the checkbook big time. Wow.

It'll be interesting to see what happens at the end of the regular season.

Wow indeed. And all 3 are very decent schools. Has this ever happened before during the season?

Academically? I'm sorry I may have gone overboard this week about Maryland, but I wouldn't even consider them an average program. I'd be shocked if anyone who's coached a game at the D1 FBS level shows any interest.

Really? I would think an opening at a B1G school would attract interest. Maybe not at the same level as USC obviously, but then you have to point at South Carolina then too. I think all 3 positions (plus Illinois) are the first time I've ever remembered these kind of openings mid-season.

In that case, maybe you're right. I just don't know who wants to go to Maryland and get pounded by every mediocre Big Ten school. My only point is, that's a really bad program.

Head ball coach. Not old ball coach.
Since you brought it up, he was the "ol' Ball Coach" long before anyone started to call him the Head Ball Coach. Goes back to his early UF days when he used to call himself that all the time in pressers etc. "What do I know I'm just an 'ol ball coach." ESPN grabbed it and ran with it.

Maryland has never been a relevant football program. However, they want to change that and the indications are that they may be prepared to put up some big money this time. Assuming that to be true they'll get plenty of interest for the job.

Just want to hear your insight on what kind of interest? I just don't think any big time coaches will have interest. Guys from mid-major schools I think will be knocking down the door for a Big Ten job opportunity though IMO.

IMO that just does not have any sort of ring to it at all. To me, he'll always be the Ol' Ball Coach.
