I went to put on the MLB playoffs while I was working today and happened to see the L'ville replay was on from this past week. Here are some things that stood out that I may have missed the first time around:
  • On the Mack TD - good things happen with aggressive play calling. This TD gave us enough points for the tie and is an incredibly good lesson of not punting inside your opponents side of the field on a manageable 4th down.
  • Mack is an incredibly nice weapon to have and I hope he comes back next year. Keep in mind that he went for 63-736 with 3 TDs last year despite only playing in 10 full games and limping through the bowl game.
  • I know injuries are part of football but I really would have liked to see what Krull would have done for our team. The TEs are generally getting open but haven't really been weapons yet. I noticed this on the Moroga drop at the end of the first half where he tried to catch the ball with one hand but should have used both...although it could have been a better throw to an open man as well.
  • The fact that we outgained L'Ville 240-140 in the first half and were only up three was alarming then and still is.
  • Big drop by Atwell on the TD close to the end of the third quarter. We are down 1 if that happens in a game we only scored 23 (although that obviously changes the play calling).
  • I know you don't want your QB "aiming" his passes but you have to make a better throw on the pass that was picked off driving for what could have been a game sealing TD. Ball was high although it probably should have been caught.
  • The DJ Turner drop on 4th and 4 with 6 minutes left was also a killer. We at least get 3 there if we convert and likely have a shot at a game sealing TD...again. I read somewhere we actually have a worse drop percentage that last year.
  • I like the aggressive play call to Addison on our last real 4th quarter drive and it appears he should have caught it.
  • Another big play was the third down before the last play L'ville ran. Dennis with a shoestring tackle keeps it at 4th and not first.
