Too much is being made about the consequences of recuirting these players. How can it ever be a bad thing to bring in a highly skilled player unless he's an emotionally troubled kid prone for off court incidences? Let's review Pitts last three
1.) Adams showed considerable promise but wasn't the force we all thought he'd be. Good enough to start and was a defensive presence ,if he'd had stayed......but he didn't
2.) Kim Birch was an immature emotional mess that in retrospect Pitt should have taken a pass on. He played well at Vegas and if he'd been mature enough to last here would have been a major contributor
3.) Donte Taylor good kid worked hard just highly over rated
Taking Birch lost Pitt J Bond who went to Texas and that didn't work out but if Bond was that good why didn't Pitt find a spot for him ? Birch was projected as a one and done,so why would a OAD scare you off ? I'm assuming Pitt backed off JB.
There's 13 scholarships availible so saving one for a Dialio or Winston type player shouldn't really effect you. So you miss and the following season you have only 12 scholarship players you can only play 7/8 kids if your good.Give one to a walk on!
My personal opinion is that Pitts best chance of success lies in an older physically mature team that can out muscle and out scheme younger more talented teams because Pitt can not out recuirt the Dukes,UNC, etc of the world no matter who the coach is unless they wish to become an outlaw program. But they should never pass on or stop trying to land the OAD they bring talent and excitement to the program.
