So a family that reminded me of wvu fans show up drunk and wearing cheap felt navy hats. The guy and his wife/gf have these stupid fold up signs that were annoying as hell.

Anyways when the navy guy was administering the oath to the new recruits there came a part in the pledge where they stated that they would obey the president. The dumb lady navy fan very loudly stated "uh, no". Immediately an elderly gentleman wearing a pitt hat called her out for such childish behavior.

Also I have never been to a game with the constant flow of people coming and going in the aisles. Do people watch games anymore?

(Sorry, just need to rant a little after that crappy game.)

I had a good time, but agree on the constant walking during plays. I dont know where common decency went, but please teach your kids it. Easy to wait until after the play and they scurry out as quick as you can so others can watch the game you are attending.

You would think the Naval academy would teach that kinda thing.

Sounds like you encountered a previously undocumenrted species: the Walmart Midshipmen.. Impressive discovery Mr. Darwin!

Not sure we are allowed to say anything bad about navy. The PC thing is to say we respect them all; players, students, fans, Annapolis residents, anyone that owns a boat,

That is funny, and frankly true.

But, that being said, we still had a great time and didnt encounter any real issues

From what I saw, it was Pitt fans moving all around. Maybe the Navy side did it too.

At Penguins games people are actually reminded to stay seated or in the aisles until there is a break in the action because as you suggested common consideration is out the window.

I've seen similar behavior at Heinz.

Several years ago, one particular family with 3 kids were so bad at this that it motivated me to move my season tickets the following year. I don't know whether these kids had bladder issues or not, but they'd each be "up 'n running" several times each game, and always separately - never together. I'd bet that their parents missed 75% of every game by having to accompany them.

Sat amongst the Pitt fans and there was a great deal of movement in and out of the seats during the game, I think the sell of beer was probably the reason for heavy traffic.

This is pretty much a common problem, at least from what I've seen.
Yes it was happening a good bit at the game yesterday it also happens all the time during
PSU games. Mostly it seems to be people who are more interested in eating than watching the game, especially
if kids are involved and bathroom breaks.
The thing that hacks me off is that they wait until 3rd and 2 to do it or there's 30 sec. left until halftime.

OK, well here comes my Old man rant. And I am not even that old but I think it's a generation thing. I mean it, I am late 30's and my dad took me to many games, football, baseball, hockey and from a very young age, you just learn to not leave your seat til a break in the action. I mean, it's common sense. Like covering your mouth when you cough, it's almost reactionary.. I have two little ones myself now, took em to some football games and they are restless, but you know what, tough because we aren't going to the stands or bathroom til a break in the action..

You just don't see that anymore. These damn kids these days, no respect..

swervin, I am same age, mid 30's and I was always under the impression you go to games to actually watch the game. not to say you were there; not to see it as social hour (though if you can combine good friends with a good game all the better), but I think people see this more as an opportunity to get drunk (at least from yesterday's action). We actually had a pitt guy that was dry humping the railing in the aisle, going up to the usher and calling him his boyfriend. He randomly grabbed a middle aged Navy woman and planted an unwanted kiss on her lips. He needed to be knocked out. But I agree with your rant...

I got my tickets through the NAVY, as I work in that field. So, most of the people I saw were Naval cadets greeting family and getting up to show family around or whatever. It was sweet at first but I realized it was happening all the time and during plays and only once did the people apologize out of about 2 or 3 dozen times, at least.

But, as is written here, that is somewhat expected with such a large crowd, maybe I am spoiled at Heinz :) haha. But, typically doesnt happen that much. If I cared all that much though, and I dont, then I would just sit at home and watch.

Don't get me wrong. Loved my time yesterday. Every cadet was great, the campus and downtown area was gorgeous, stadium great site lines though lack of bathrooms were a problem. I just thought with a bowl game people would want to be there.

One funny moment was early 3rd when pitt was down big, some grumpy old pitt fan grabbed his coat and left with his wife but was cursing non stop on his way out of the stadium. Yelled he was going home. Probably only 5 minutes after halftime. Reminded me of grumpy old men.

Cadets getting up every few minutes during the game,, Hmmm, that's a tough one.. Sometimes you have to put national pride to the side and tell someone to sit the F down.. Either that or don't get seats anywhere near them but that is sometimes unavoidable..

We didn't encounter one bad Navy fan. They were all super nice and very respectful. We did run into a few bad Pitt fans. My kids (12/13) got a life lesson on how you shouldn't take sports too serious. Especially sports in which you have no influence on the outcome of the game. There were a handful of VERY angry Pitt fans near us that were acting like one of the coaches/players personally ripped out their liver. I don't get it.... Life is too short. It's a game! None of these angry Pitt fans looked like they could have played football beyond the 5th grade. LOL.

I had a fantastic time with my family at the game. I've been to 8 road games and Pitt is 1-7 in those games. I've had a blast at every one!

I didnt mind, my kids liked seeing the cadets and I was there with Naval officers and their families. Navy doesnt really have a great team year in and year out, so none of them were in your face about football, actually the opposite. They kept talking about all the great Pitt players in the NFL all game. I think they were just happy they beat Army, that is their real bowl game.

That area has terrible fans. I know it's a problem everywhere but I've been to a few games down in that area. Baseball, football, etc. and the fans seem more interested in socializing than watching games.
I was thinking the same thing by just reading this.. Hey, no problem, if you don't care about the game then great, sit by them and look at their snazzy uniforms but if you are actually there to watch the game, well probably best to stay far away..

Spot on. They are there to socialize. And by the way, when you are trained to die for your country, so football is kinda lessened in the mindset of most cadets. That is why I said I didnt mind. You can tell that many family members dont see the kids often. If I was in slappy valley and people did that I would have most likely been thrown out of the game :)

Twutort next time you are thinking about going to an away game, can you think of the team over yourself? ;)
or just get a ticket with the cadets and their parents and save the good seats for fans that want to watch the game..

At a Pirate game this summer, we returned to our section entrance from the concourse. People were coming and going as play was going on. Something significant happened on the field and the usher looked at me as if to tell me to go ahead down the steps to my seat. I told him that I will wait until the inning is over. He was impressed by that...but really why is that a big deal? If he and other ushers did their jobs, my actions would be the norm.

I share season tickets at Heinz on the 48 (50yd line is the aisle) on the aisle. The walking between plays deal really pisses me off. Right up there with the "leave the grocery cart in the middle of the parking lot" folks...Being in the middle of the field you miss most of the plays run to your left. Cannot do this at a Pirate or Penguins game but for some reason these idiots cannot time their walk to the 40 seconds within plays time frame....

gosh... baseball is even worse because the casual fan just thinks it is boring and nothing is happening. Football, is 3 hours where, if you are lucky 200 plays take place. Plenty of time to do whatever you want to do and not interrupt people.

good point. To stand up in the middle of a play in football, it's almost going out of your way to be a jerk.. Plenty of time to wait and be considerate..

You are the problem. You are hereby banned from attending road games.

Probably a good idea. I was at the last two games in South Bend and those didn't end well. The last Backyard Brawl. I was there when LaVar Arrington blocked the field goal. The only game they've won was in 2010 at Cincinnati. I'm guessing the only reason they won that game is because there was a foot of snow on the ground and we were one of 100 fans in attendance.

The idiots took the points.

I went to a Steeler game a few years back where it was that same way. Not only was there a constant flow of people, but they would stop right in front of you when a play was happening. It was the most disgusting display and I have never been to another Steeler game since.

Most people don't raise their kids anymore. They let TV or the schools do it.

I've actually had ushers at Pirates games tell me that I wasn't allowed to stand around the concourse entrance and had to return to my seat. I'm standing there waiting for the half-inning to end, and they are telling me that polite action is prohibited. If that ever happens again, I will ream the guy.

At Penguin games, the ushers stop people from returning to their seats until there is a break in the action.

That should be standard at all sporting events. You only get up during a break in the action, and you can't return to your seat until a break in the action.

It shouldn't have to be a "rule".... people should have common courtesy. But since people are mostly idiots, make it a rule. Have ushers stop people from returning to their seats until a break in the action.
