I have one last post I want to share regarding Dixon. I am quite honestly a bit sad about him leaving. Not going to lie one bit. I have only known pitt with Jamie on top. Thinking back on all the memories I had to share with my Father and the rest of my family attending games from Pitt to MSG to Syracuse throughout my still quite young life, I can't help but feel a bit depressed that such an honorable man isn't leading our program anymore. Being from up here in Scranton, Nitter Country, it always felt good to know that the one Pitt program I cared more about than anything else was light-years ahead of Penn State's respective program. Jamie was the reason. My father and mother raised me to be, in my opinion, an honorable young man myself. Therefore, when I recognize a quality character such as Jamie(Much more than quality), who I viewed as my role model growing up, seemingly getting ran out of town, I feel it necessary to find closure with it myself, which may be why I felt the need to post this. When I say ran out of town, I don't want it being misconstrued. From a few people I've talked to , who know their stuff, and reading an article on trib, it seems as though Dixon felt very responsible for the stagnation of the program to the point that he felt it wasn't fair for him to stay and keep fans in a very uncomfortable state. Combined with the fact that TCU opened up, he had to leave now. Unless he made a final four next year, fans would be getting worse. He didn't want to be responsible for the death of this program, and that to me says alot more about his character than anything else. I am fully convinced that he would be the coach still if we had made a little run this year. I can also be wrong. Nevertheless, it is certainly tough to hear that the coach who basically made us what we are today, and gave us the expectations we have, feel that he had to leave for the better of this program and his own life. I may be in the minority because I am so young, but I certainly will have a bit of a tough time getting over this, even if this Sean Miller saga unfolds in our favor. My older sister, who attended Pitt, had a chance to shadow the 2009 -10 team. She said she got to know Jamie on a decently personal level, and was very fond of his wholesomeness. She called me today, crying. Literally. When I heard her, I did the same, and I have no shame. Pitt basketball, sans participating in sports myself, was my childhood. Ironically, last week I received some posters and trading cards that Jamie signed " To Fred, Hail to Pitt-Jamie Dixon." Our program may or may not get better. I certainly know that if miller is hired, the excitement will be through the roof. I will be excited too. I certainly will not immediately claim that this move is better for the program in the long run though. I made this post to appreciate Jamie for what he did for our program, and me personally. In a generation where kids I grow up with are lacking character more and more by the day, I hope you folks can appreciate my thoughts, and Jamie Dixon for what he helped us accomplish. He is a great coach, and an even greater man. For the sake of our program, hopefully in 5 years we look back on this and realize that it was the correct decision for both Jamie and the University. He certainly set the bar high, though. I will root for him and pay attention to TCU as well. Thank you Jamie Dixon, and H2P! for life.
