One of our great antagonists retiring

I recall a couple years ago when Jay Paterno's embarrassing letter to Urban Meyer was national news covered on the front page of ESPN.com, but Micco said it wasn't a relevant story for the PG. That sums up his tenure.

someday we'll regret not having a newspaer-in the classic sense. you can't take your computer to the head.

I never understood why Pitt, being in a major media market, doesn't offer a journalism major. A main reason why local sports media is biased against us is because none are Pitt alums and a lot are PSU alums.

Last time I read the Post Gazette, Moby Dick was still a sardine……
I quit reading it years ago, but only because they started charging for online access. TribLive is my main Pittsburgh online news source.

With the print media going downhill, people probably figure it's not a career with much future other than maybe online. I don't though? Do newspapers or TV hire many "writers" anymore?

It took 17 days for anyone to notice?

someone else I follow wished him well was how I noticed it. I don't think he had anything to do with sports for several years now at the PG, not sure what his role was most recently. But all the nitter fanboy/girls (Audrey!!) who Micco gave their start to are all there on the timeline.

Still amazing how Micco always made sure he had a beat writer (usually a recent grad of the daily collegian) in State College, but totally missed/ignored the whole Sandusky saga. Sarah Ganim (been a while, can't remember exact spelling) blew the PG coverage out of the water. Not that it was hard to beat next to zero coverage.

And before all the PG fans jump on....I don't wish for the demise of the Post Gazette. The city needs a strong local paper. It just needs a good enema. Maybe with the old timers leaving, and hopefully getting the union issues resolved at some point, the PG can be much improved.

I think people have just transitioned to web and video. If you can put out a product people want, they will watch ads or pay for access (i.e. DK on Pittsburgh Sports).

Plus, they aren't beholden to corporate interests halting your story.
