My idea of a bowl game is going to a warm climate or and exciting southern city like Nashville. As a season ticket holder who attends bowl games and March NCAA tournaments there are only two places I will attend this year. The Gator Bowl (old school) or the Music City Bowl. The Sun Bowl would be an option if it wasn't the day after Christmas. Going to Annapolis is fun in Sept or Oct, but no so much in December. And a big no to Pinstripe Bowl. The day after Christmas is never good. But most of all I hate freakin New York City, the land of arrogant individuals. Sitting in 30 degrees or worse the day after Christmas in Gotham garbage is not my idea of a Bowl. C'mon Mr. Barnes get us to Nashville.

I'm all in with wolf717. Who wants to be in a crowded, expensive, hard to move around in city to watch football in the Bronx. Buses to the city in lots of traffic, the "mugger mover" to the game ( hang on to your wallet), and the honor of staying in a so so $400 hotel ( unless you want a bed bug flee bag) along with very high food and drink prices unless you go to Sal's pizza on 8th ave and watch the employees beat the rats while you're waiting for your food. Not to mention the pigeons carpet bombing the pedestrians, unfriendly residents, rats ( the four legged kind), expensive cabs, fake panhandlers, obstacle courses around the homeless and bicyle messengers that are lethal.
Plus where's the beach and beach bar???

Wow, and I love NY... didn't know it was "Escape from NY"

The reason we do not get a better bowl is because we do not travel. You are only hurting Pitt by not going. It sure looks like we are going to NYC to play Indiana.

I go to the Pennsylvania Society in New York in December every year, great food, theater, and tourism, even when cold!

Been to the Music City Bowl in Nashville when it was freezing too! I love Nashville and especially the Hermitage, Parthenon and Belle Meade Plantation! Have a friend there with an open room anytime and the drive is nice too with stops in Cincinnati, Louisville and Fort Knox Patton Museum and Stephen Foster National Park. Lots of Presidential Libraries on the way too!

Either way, I like both!

Well, Nashville is a yawner. All those rednecks singing in ugly bars sound alike. Bad food, bad music. Not exactly balmy in late December. NYC is better, but not 12/26. ANPLS is fine, 365.

NYC is a pretty safe place and I have loved every trip I've taken there for the BE tournament at MSG. Never been to Yankee Stadium, though.

In any case.... its possible to get a decent midtown manhattan hotel for under 200 per night.... and I suppose there will be packages through the University.

And the subway is pretty safe. Obviously, the second poster in this thread hasn't been to NYC in a couple decades.

I would go to the Pinstripe or Music City. Both are easy drives. We have no shot at Music City or Belk.

Nashville and NYC are easy drives. I'd seriously consider going to JAX but no way am I missing Pitt/Syr bball (Dec 30) for that and its too long of a trip to just be there a couple days.

Take NJT to the city from Princeton and then cab to and from the bronx....share a cab.
That is what i am doing if we are in the Pinstripe.
Plus, I haven't been to the new stadium.

Actually that's life in NYC in 2009-2012 since I worked there those three years! Worse three years of my life but I'm a beach/country boy not a city guy.
But I'll be there!

I feel the exact opposite of the OP. Not that everyone can't have their own opinions, just how I feel. But I don't think the Music City Bowl is attractive at all. Obviously my first choice would be the TaxSlayer, but if that doesn't happen, I think the Pinstripe is a great secondary choice.

I would imagine it's easier for most pitt fans to get to new york.

Paterno (gasp) was right about one thing, the bowl setup, especially in his day, does not favor northern teams

I really have to wonder where you worked, if that was your experience on the subway... No matter what you think of ol' Mayor Rudy, the cleaner city is pretty accommodating to us outsiders.

Love Rudy and Bloomerg did a good job as well. Just not a city guy but will be at the game if its there. Bus to cab to the staduim Pitt wins cab to bus to my car home.Simple.
I also worked there 84-88 even less fun in tnose days.

Totally agree! I ordered all of my (Pitt) bowl tickets last week for each one below the Mason-Dixon Line! It was cold enough in Ft. Worth last year!

CO

I much prefer a warm climate bowl game too, but the bottom line is that Pitt fans need to go to whatever bowl game we end up at. We need to break the perception that Pitt fans don't travel well! Support the team!

Well then I helped Pitt going to Duke this year, Boston College last year, and Clemson next year. Also have supported the school going to Arizona and Utah twice among other far destinations. As for New York one day after Christmas, buy 10 more tickets and take a lot of your friends so Pitt can change their reputation and I can go to the next southern Bowl game.

To each his own, but the Pinstripe would be one of the very few driveable bowl games for many Pitt fans that isn't a complete crap game (i.e. Detroit Bowl or Military Bowl). NYC around the holidays is awesome. Would be a cool scene and of the minor bowl games I feel like this one gets a fair amount of added attention due to location, the ACC vs. Big Ten tie ins, etc.

Doubletree Hotel in Chelsea, right near MSG

They have rates for 139, 129 depending on the day. Small room but great location and a good deal.
