but the number of turnovers caused by guys with the ball stepping on the out of bounds line. I am sure part of this is now that the 3 line has been extended the room between that an OOB line is smaller.

But do the refs have to be so maniacal about making these calls? In an already choppy, getting harder to watch by the year sport, do we have to have one more rule that needs to be so emphatically enforced? Was this creating a problem? Again, there are some egregious times when you got to call it, but it seems like the eyes of the ref are now trained on this. Like, "oh boy, another opportunity to blow my whistle, slow up the game, ruin some offense and make this about me!!!"

College basketball is just getting more and more unwatchable. Not that this is a primary reason, but it is showing just there is a complete lack of focus on the actual game of basketball and more focus on enforcing rules.

true, kind of like hockey with the offsides. But you have to have some integrity of the rules. Remember that clip from earlier in the year when Lebron James didn't feel like dribbling and the refs totally missed/ignored it?

There's a solution to this. Widen the court. I've always felt they should do this in the NBA in order to truly make the arc an arc.

Nah. Rules are rules. Selectively enforcing them isn’t a solution for anything. And if you bend them, where do you stop? Tip of the toe? The whole toe? What else gets overlooked?

There have been talks in the NBA about widening the court because of this. With players increasing their range on 3, I think that would probably be a good idea

That’ll be interesting. This could result in fewer seats - big money prime seats at that. Some facilities may have enough room but I would think not all. And giving up that revenue won’t be easy. But maybe there’s a way.

It's a common problem in the NBA as well. I see it at least 2-3 times per night. I think it's just a consequence of having incredibly long wings who are also uber quick and athletic - guys are basically forced to play as deep as they possibly can or they'll be blocked into oblivion.
