I don't think there are any Pitt Panthers' "fans" more desiring a win vs Clemson than the players themselves. At least I hope so. But among we armchair fans, where are you? Optimistic, pessimistic, or realistic? And I'm not asking just about the Clemson game, but the next 14 games before the ACCT begins

The optimistic me (after seeing the upcoming schedule) says we go 9-5 from now forward, and finish 21-10 before the tournament

The pessimistic me says we go 5-9 and finish 17-14

Realistic me? 7-7 and 19-12

We will all know by March 8

Let's hope the current losing streak ends at or about 2:00 pm EST on Saturday

H2P!

Ask me after the Clemson Game. If this team doesn’t clean up their act after the awful FSU performance and play with fire the season is over.

Generally speaking I’m not optimistic because I think teams have figured out how to shut down our guards and we are so soft overall

I think we right the ship against Clemson then win the next 4 as well because I still think we're pretty good.

With the way that FSU game went and then the ending - with that pussy dunk and the taunting of Corhen throughout the game and in the handshake line?
It's lucky there wasn't a full on fight.

If the refs called a normal game and issued a T early on FSU like they should have when it got chippy to keep control, we may have won that game but it was out of control.

Were we softer than FSU?
Yeah - in that game.

I bet the Pitt players would *love* to play them again in the ACCT.

I'm trying to be realistic, Moe. I think we need 10 more wins, including in the ACCT, to get to the NCAAT. I also think we'll get 7 or 8 more wins in the regular season. So it will take a minimum of 2 wins in the ACCT to have hope of making the NCAAT. It also depends on who the wins and losses are against.

@pittbb80

It's after the Clemson game. So, per your comment earlier this morning, what's your level? Optimistic, Pessimistic, or Realistic?

My two cents worth: we have now gone 0-3 vs the top teams in the league (Duke, Clemson, and Louisville) and lost two of them on our home court. Our road win vs VT is looking somewhat better as they are starting to play better. But the loss to FSU was a head scratcher as Pitt was clearly out-physicaled by a middling team

I was both pleased AND frustrated by the game today. I had other plans @ 10:00am (my time) so I watched the game on tape. I really thought we would win in regulation. When it went to OT, not so much despite our getting the first two points of the extra session. Clemson looked more relaxed (probably more relieved that they hadn't blown what was a 14-point lead) and focused on regaining their offensive shooting edge. As others have said losing the 50-50 balls was the difference in OT

I'm not as pessimistic as I was after the Seminoles game; now focusing toward a "realistic" record of 19-12 (10-10) going into the ACCT, and needing at least 3 wins in the tournament to get to the NCAAT

But as @Joe the Panther Fan might say, "Pitt could go out and win the next 5 or 6 in a row"

It's only basketball

Agree I’m not as pessimistic as I was after the FSU game as well. As I said in another thread. If they can find the game they played from about the 6 minute mark in the second half to near the end of the game more consistently then they might be able to get hot and make a nice run.

Cam needs to continue to play with the energy he played with today and elevate it a bit more. His performance today was encouraging

They need to play the aggressive team defense and gang rebounding I think they let up at points down the stretch and for sure in OT

Ish needs to lead like he did today. He was under control for the most part

But perhaps more important than all the above Lowe needs to stop playing hero ball. There are too many possessions where the ball gets stuck in his hands and he ends up chucking up a three or forcing a wild shot off a of control drive. He more than anyone is why they’ve been awful At Times the last few games

So call me cautiously optimistic but not sold If they can build off the good things they did today they might be able to make a nice run and be the team we thought they could be
