Remember that when the NY6 was announced, the Orange Bowl agreed to move from 8PM to 1PM and hold down that time spot every year, no matter what. The afternoon time wasn't ideal but the ACC and the Orange Bowl wanted to be on NYD. Then, it was announced that the Orange was moving to NYE so that it can stay in primetime. I disagreed because NYE TV ratings for anything are atrocious since most are at parties with 1 TV for 10 or more people. ESPN was so worried about this, it tried to move the semis (Orange and Cotton) to NYD this year but the Rose and Sugar wouldn't budge.

But, anyway, so now the Orange has been moved off of NYD and moved out of primetime on NYE. It'll start at 4. OK, fine. It wont feel like an Orange Bowl this year since its a semifinal. But, what about next year? What are the times of the games next year?

My guess is that the Orange Bowl will start at 1PM on Saturday, Dec 31, then the semis at 4 and 8 (Fiesta/Peach). I guess that's better though than an extremely anti-climactic Monday, Jan 2 game when the Rose and Sugar will be played.

Seems like the only time the Orange will be played on NYE in primetime are in the year where the Rose and Sugar are the semis. In other years, it can be play earlier in the day on NYE.

Personally, I think the Orange should be locked into 1:00 NYD every year no matter what. NYD should be Orange, Rose, Sugar, that's it. Move the Citrus and Outback Bowls to NYE.

Some serious issues there

The Cotton will most likely be the 1pm game on NYE with the Orange at 1pm on the 2nd. The Orange will be head to head with the Outback and Citrus just like the Fiesta is this year.

Under the pre-BCS system New Years Day this year would have been really interesting and we could have ended up with split National Champions.

Orange Bowl #1 Clemson(ACC champ wasn't locked into a bowl until the late 80's) vs. #4 Oklahoma
Sugar Bowl #2 Alabama vs. #8 Notre Dame(the Sugar would have locked ND into the game around Halloween)
Rose Bowl #3 Michigan State vs. #5 Stanford
Cotton Bowl #14 Houston(best former SWC team this season) vs. #17 Michigan
Fiesta Bowl #7 Ohio State vs. #9 Florida State(the Fiesta would always try and match up the best at-large teams, remember conference tie-in's were only for conference champs back in the day)

Orange only moved times this year because they have the playoffs on NYE. Nothing more to see here.
