Even I didn’t think the Pirates would be this bad, but they well may be the worst team in MLB history. The opening line in Vegas on the over-under for the season was 26, and I quickly made a big bet on the under.

I never was worried about it, but I never thought it would be this easy. If they go 11-3 in their final 14 games, I still win. They couldn’t go 11-3 against a good AA team.

I am skeptical about Hayes because they drafted him. But, he appears to have the potential to be a solid player. Who else on that team can you even say that about? Reynolds, Newman, Frazier and Moran are bit bench players on a good team. Stallings is a backup catcher. Josh Bell? Apparently, he is a half season player whether the season is 162 games or 60.

When the Pirates started their“rebuild” in 2016, the worst teams in baseball were rebuilding at the same time. The Padres and Blue Jays have built solid teams. The Padres traded James Shields, a pretty solid starting P. In return they got Fernando Tatis, Jr., perhaps the best young player in baseball. They are 32-17. The Pirates traded Gerritt Cole, a far superior pitcher. They got Colin Moran and garbage. They are worse than they were before the trades. They got rid of every good player in the team and in return they got dreck. Now, they really don’t have any bargaining chips in a trade.

Oh well. I will make enough for two round trip Business Class tickets from Barcelona to Nairobi in July 2021. If we can travel then.
