We have an amazon Prime membership so I'm thinking about watching this. Any recommendations?

Reading the book now ... very good ... kind of... no very interesting and timely storyline

Started series but want to finish the book first.

I tried but it started out rather slow and I gave up after six or so episodes. Interesting concept and i'm sure it gets better, might give it another go. The acting seemed to be quite good.

I thought season 1 was pretty good but things got a little too strange for me in season 2. I'm going to stick with it in season 3 and see. My next prime show will be Sneaky Pete, which has rave reviews.

Everything is great about the show honestly except the protagonist w/ the glasses.
The protagonist is supposed to be the hero... or at least be interesting.
Bad casting there.
Still couldn't take my eyes off the show.

This is how I felt about the show after a few episodes but I stayed with it and ended up enjoying it. I just finished watching season 2 a few weeks ago and I thought it was really good.

I really liked the series, im.not finished with it yet though but it holds my interest and is an interesting concept

Sneaky Pete is an entertaining watch. Giovanni Ribisi is very good.

I made it through 3-4 episodes before I gave up on it. If you're looking for something less serious, Mr Selfridge's can pass the time. The Grand Tour and Vikings are pretty good. And of course you have some amazing classic HBO on there with Rome, The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, The Newsroom, Deadwood, Sopranos and Bored to Death.

I quit early in the second season. It wasn't bad, but there are better options.

I just finished Rectify on Netflix and highly recommend it. It honestly might have surpassed The Wire as the best show I've ever seen.

The first season of The Patriot is pretty good if you only have Prime though.

I love the series. Enjoyed Season 1 and just starting Season 2. It is actually a pretty humbling and scary look at what America could be like if we had lost WW2. I don't think the acting is as good as it could be with some characters, but overall I have really enjoyed the show.

Sunday Night is my guilty pleasure TV night. Homeland and Billions. Homeland has actually gotten better since their original story line. The attempted coup and stuff concerning the "President Elect" and the hatchet job by certain media types is eerily reminiscent on what is happening now.

Billions is just plain Capitalistic fun.

Rectify was excellent. Sundance TV show, but Netflix got the rights to show it. Not a lot of "action" but talk about character development and superb acting. Shame that show wasn't a little more mainstream, because it would have won a lot of awards IMO. Wasn't sure what to make of it the first few episodes, but it was very compelling and really pulled you in.

Completely agree on Homeland, the last 3 seasons in particular have been outstanding. I thought my wife was going to have a heart attack when they were trying to get Saul out of that village a few seasons ago. I wasn't sure how the current season would be, given that it's based in NYC, but it's really picked up. I need to start watching Billions...

The Americans and Homeland are at the top of my list right now. Shame on Bloodline, because that's right up there too... looking forward to its final season. Fargo coming up too.

The first season was engaging because of the concept. It made the feel of the alternative history come alive, but it was a bit slow. I thought the second season was better from the start and finished strong. So, yes, I recommend it.
The author is a sci-fi writer, so it does get into a the sci-fi thing, more so in the second season. I'm not a sci-fi fan, but I think what he did was very interesting.

Big fan of Rectify. You're right, not a lot of action but the character development pulls you in. I'm not sure what to make of the final season. It seemed like it was time to wrap it up so the actors can move on to other projects.

My wife and I have been watching as well, we like it. It stretches things a bit, but I agree the concept is very interesting, and the lead actress is very good.

Legion

Feud

Fargo coming up

Silicon Valley coming up

Don't recall if you ever caught Black Mirror... If not, White Christmas and San Junipero were the standout episodes for me there.

I am a diehard Science Fiction fan ... signed up for Amazon Prime just to catch the first season of "The Expanse". (I am also about halfway through reading the second book in the series, called "Caliban's War"). The Expanse is set about 300 years in the future, but there's no fantastical warp drive to take you thousands of light years in a few days ... just an overpopulated Earth and settlements throughout the solar system: Luna, Mars, the Asteroid Belt, and the moons of the gas giants. Mars is an independent government growing rapidly in population and technology to become a legitimate rival to Earth. As a result, the governments and corporations of Earth and Mars are sparring and warring at multiple locations throughout the solar system, as well as taking big risks to stay ahead of their rivals in both technology and weapons.

I've been diving head first into the "realistic sci fi" genre ever since I read the book "The Martian". This series hasn't disappointed yet.

Couple of these I haven't even heard before, including the expanse and black mirror... will have to check out.

Interesting about Bloodline that it really wasn't intended to go beyond 1 season. I liked Season 2, but not nearly as much as Season 1. It almost felt like they jumped the shark a bit at the end.

There is a new show debuting on Netflix, Mindunter, in October. Filmed in Pittsburgh and also stars Anna Torv from Fringe, one of my more favorite shows. Supposedly has tested really, really well. And of course Stranger Things which was very entertaining is also debuting Season 2 in October on Netflix also. Looking forward to both.

Bloodline - Agreed that Season 1 was the best for the reasons you mentioned, but I still really enjoyed S2... great acting (I could do without Sissy Spacek though) and has always kept me on the edge of my seat.

Mindhunter - Looking forward to this as well, wasn't sure when it was premiering so good to know...

Stranger Things - wasn't as crazy about it as most, but agreed that's it's a fun watch... wife can't wait for S2.

They filmed an episode of Mindhunter right up the street from me.
So my parents moved into an independent living community last year. They had a cedar closet full of perfectly preserved clothing from the 60's through mid-80's. I got in touch with a vintage clothing owner in the South Side who came out and almost fainted at the motherlode. Told me to keep a close eye on the show since he is one of the main suppliers for their clothes. Can't wait.
