Wow - what a spectacle. Not unexpected given the breadth of characters that are involved.

It was a long movie - 2.5 hours +, but moved along swiftly. Our theater was packed and not a lot of shuffling around which can happen with these long movies. We really enjoyed it. For those that have been following along since 2008, they did a great job of seamlessly interweaving all the characters. Spontaneous applause in 3 different parts of the movie which always makes me chuckle. I won't give out any spoilers. Our grade: Solid B+.

One word of caution: I would think twice about taking any impressionable children. This movie is easily the most violent out of all of them and IMHO crosses a line, albeit that it still received a PG-13 rating. For us, no biggie, but there is a TON of human carnage.

I stumbled on this link a few days ago, and even though we have seen all the Marvel movies multiple times, it was nice to read a primer on the back stories to help remember the build up to Thanos.

Anyone else see it yet? Thoughts?

Not yet

Will soon

Love that Marvel has done such a great job of having separate stories but a continuum where they all reference each other. They’ve really done a great job so far with this

I did enjoy it

That said, i would have likely enjoyed it more and felt more emotion during it if i didnt already know the gist of the story from the comics (among other things)
In contrast to my wife , who cried
Or my nine year old, who declared it the worst movie ever, albeit for just one reason

Funny how my Theater was full and no one left during the credits. Who started the post credit phenomenon? Was it Marvel?

As far as the movie, it didn’t strike me as any more violent. I’d have to see it again to see what you’re referring to.

I thought the movie was funny. Drax is a trip.

I’d give it a B.

Well......half of the Universe population disintegrated, so......there's that. ;)

There have been many Marvel movies where the violence has been less, shall we say, numerous. Every scene with Thanos resulted in pain, death and destruction, including beloved characters being stabbed to death. Or thrown off a cliff. Or....

Disintegrated? So did the wicked witch of the west when Dorothy violented pummeled her with a bucket of water. ;)

I’m not doubting you on the violence thing. I’ll just have to pay closer attention next time.

It was dark to me. Emotional at times and funny moments, as each set of characters had their time like snippets of each movie. Thanos has huge family issues, way beyond dysfunctional. Thor and Dr. Strange show just how powerful they can be among the other powered heroes. Pacing was great and non stop action. Thanos truly is a powerful villain. Love the cameo of the other villain we haven't seen in awhile, that was a shocker. Robert Downey and Cumberbatch, one Holmes getting to know the other Holmes...that was a great scene, two strong alpha egos at each other.

It was great although man.... that ending... I’m not kidding when I say I could hear people sobbing everywhere...

They originally didn’t want to do the tag which came alllll the way after credits this time was literally was the ONLY sign of tiny optimism after the end.

The story itself was really well done and if you sat through credits a ton of locations were used .. including nearby (for me ) Atlanta.

There’s a list someone compiled of characters who can beat Thanos that was a preygood read

James Cameron and Steve Spielberg can’t possibly be more wrong about these films ... which they just don’t happen to have anything to do with so I’m definitely sensing some penis envy going on.

Purposely didn’t open this thread for a couple days because I wanted to see the movie first to for my opinion.

I’ve been following along for the last 10 years. When civil war was coming out I re watched all the movies just so I had a refresher on what had happened.

Felt like to truly understand the movie I should have rewatched them all from the beginning over the last month.... there were a lot of thing I just felt fuzzy about trying to remember.

That being said, I thought this was a solid solid movie. B+ seems about right like OP stated. The cliff hanger at the end really struck me as a little odd.... but came full circle with the end credits. Kind of mad I have to wait an entire year now for captain marvel to lead some insight into avengers 4

I felt the same way about being a bit fuzzy on past films. That's why I included the link. It's a great write up that touches on everything important re: the build up to Thanos and infinity stones.

I’m glad I read nothing ahead of time

It never would have had the impact with hints

Captain Marvel I’m sure will figure huge but I won’t leave out either (or both) Nebula &....yep... Gomora

Totally agree on the spoilers. Personally I needed to brush up on what exactly happened to set this up, that's all.

What impact? I guess I am not as attached to the marvel universe as most. the way it ended simply didn’t seem permanent to me. Aren’t those characters coming back?

Of course they are but that didn’t change the bad feeling in real time... at least not for me or most of the crowd I saw it with ... you really didn’t find it the least upsetting?

Granted it’s temporary like any other film with a tragic ending

Maybe it’s the way it happened (the disintegration). I don’t know. I’ve felt real emotion at times with certain films. Plenty of films have brought tears to my eyes. This one didn’t. I still liked the film though and I intend on going for a second time. Superman’s death moved me a bit a few years ago. And that’s a movie many people didn’t like.

Strangely, shifting gears here, I watched a new clip of Solo yesterday that I hadn’t seen before. I will link it here. But this brought a different kind of emotion for me. It actually gave me goosebumps. I think it might have been the music that took me back to my youth. And it gives me hope that’s Ron Howard was able to save this film and deliver a good product.

Psyched to see Solo too trailer looks great

While we're in this topic - What happens when you can't get your raging Hulk to come out? I mean, I really understand Bruce Banners dilemma, when that moment of need and the Hulk just disappoints..It almost puts the Avengers in jeopardy during the climactic scene. I'm hearing once you reach three Avenger movies, Hulk doesn't happen very much.

Agreed and SPOILER ALERT

Anyone notice Hulk Thor etc were spared?

Against Thanos those guys have the best shot...

I love Ole Wehead for instance ...my fav actually... but admittedly he isn’t the best matchup for for Thanos with or without the Infinity Stones....

Infinity Stones??? Are they going to tour again?

Once again Marvel did a great job. I took my youngest son and we both loved it. I was caught off guard at the end, but what can you do. I am eagerly waiting for the sequel to come out

Went again over the weekend. Liked it much more the 2nd time. As someone not familiar with the comic books and who hasn’t seen all of the films, seeing it a 2nd time helped to understand it a bit more. I think the ending lacked impact for me because I’m not attached as much. For example, I can see how the death of Vision could have been emotional. But to me he’s just another dude. I do like his other half though!

One thing I did notice is that all the original avengers where spared. That has to mean something right?

Correct. Most of their contracts expire in 2019, so I presume some of the original members will be killed off. Hard to say. From a marketing perspective, these characters (and actors) are still extremely popular, so no easy answers.

I'm looking forward to seeing it again also. We were with my family yesterday and kept laughing about the whole Guardians of the Galaxy sequences. Funniest parts of the movie by far. Had you ever seen any of those stand alone movies? If not, it's a shame because the most humor is built from having experiences with these characters previously.

Oh yeah. I’ve seen the Guardians movies and actually like them better. They’re a little too busy for me with all of the CGI effects and action sequences. But they are fun movies.

As far as avengers, Downey Jr and Scarlet are aging. They may defeat Thanos, but not Father Time.

Actually Chris Evans is the only one so far who has adamantly stated he's not returning, but I get the aging thing. It's like Hugh Jackman with Wolverine. It's iconic casting and almost impossible to replicate with audience acceptance.

Disney is in a pickle on what to do. They are moving on with other characters like Captain America, Ant-Man, Spiderman (actually that character is being shared by Sony), but abandoning Thor, Captain America and Iron Man is going to be tough.

Speaking of Thor, I liked his line at the end when he introduced Groot to Captain America—“I’d like you to meet my friend, Tree”. Struck me as funny.

Btw, early thoughts from those who saw Solo...lacks the Star Wars mystic (which isn’t surprising without The force, Jedi and light sabers) but there are lots of nostalgic nods that fans will enjoy.

Can’t wait for that either. Deadpool 2 this weekend! Love the summer.

Never saw the first one. At some point I will. The mood has to strike me.

The new Jurassic movie looks excellent, as well as the new Mission Impossible. I’ve never seen a MI movie. Ever. Might have to catch up on them.

Thor had some great lines ... calling Rocket “ Rabbit” constantly...”Tree” etc... then the whole rivalry with Starlord... I need to see the last Thor stand-alone as it feeds right into Infinity Wars... I saw Black Panther so I knew about Wakanda...I think I’ll definitely see Infinity Wars again... my wife said she needs to see Dr Strange ... I agree having seen it you feel left out not knowing his whole deal

I forget what Movie I watched prior to infinity wars.. but I could not believe how much it related to black panther. So much more in black panther made sense.... I watched it the first time and was thoroughly confused. I appreciated black panther so much more.

Probably Civil War... he was introduced there and his father was killed in that one passing the torch

The last Thor movie is my favorite - actually some very funny scenes.

We’ve been on a Marvel binge the last week or so. Watched Iron Man and Iron Man 2 last night. Had never seen them. I liked Iron Man a lot. I liked seeing how this whole thing started in the cinematic universe. Iron Man 2 was ok. But it further painted the picture. When did Mickey Rourke become a good actor? He was very good.

I guess the next one to watch chronologically would be Hulk-the first one with Edward Norton(although technically this film was before Iron Man 2 and the first Thor would be the next in line). I have to imagine he was much better than the current Mark Ruffalo Banner. But that original Hulk film didn’t make much money. Was it not good?

Watched Black Panther the other night. This was my 1st repeat viewing since seeing it in the theater. I honestly liked it less. I don’t get the hype. His sister is hot though. She looked good and the cinematography was good.

Several weeks ago I walked into the game room when my son was watching the latest Thor movie. So I sat down and started watching midway through. It was God awful.
