Its winter so I’m reading more. How about a few recommendations of your favorite reads. Here are mine:

The Anxious Generation - very good, not political, should be mandatory reading for all young parents.

American History

Anything written by Hampton Sides. Just a great author makes history a story; not dry academic crap
Bood & Thunder - about Kip Carson and the founding of the american west - excellent
I’ve read all of his books - all great reads

What do you recommend? Can be fiction or non fiction.

I’m reading “1920: The Year that Made the Decade Roar” by Eric Burns. I decided to tackle that decade for a few months. Next up is a biography of Calvin Coolidge.

Currently burning through Keith rossens books. Really good author.

Also cannot recommend more pitt alum John Verchers three novels.

Riot on Greenwood - E Gates
There Goes the 'Hood - L Freeman
The Color of Law - R Rothstein

more factual history :

Touched, "Raping children while coaching and winning two national championships"

Paterno By The Book, "how to run a cult untouched, unrivaled and above the law while concealing and enabling 3 decades of student & kid rape and still be respected and revered by gym teachers and alumni trash all around the nation"

"Gang raped and rehired while still at the hospital bed!" - Jimmy Franks

I’ve always been a big John Grisham fan. Now, I’m on the third book in his Camino Island trilogy, which are not about a lawyer as the primary character.

I read a lot, mainly on the lighter side, and among the books I have read recently, the best has been “A Higher Call,” based on a true story about a German WW II fighter ace who has an already badly shotup American bomber in his sights in western Germany, and decides that instead of shooting it down he will escort it back to England. It tells the story of both the German pilot and his American counterpart both before and after the event.

Also recently reread “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak for the third time. A truly remarkable book.

A good light read is “Falling” a first novel by TJ Newman. However, probably not a good idea to read it while in an airplane.

Reading very lightly and nothing really deep.
Got on a kick and read both of Jimmy Buffett's novels.
Where is Joe Merchant?
and
A Salty Piece of Land.
Both good easy reading. Great story telling

The Devil In The White City. Excellent non-fiction.

Martin Scorsese is planning to adapt the book to film. Need I say more?

Just finished Bill Maher's latest book. His politics tends to mirror mine with an ode to common sense. Keith Richards biography. I don't fly as much as I used to, used flights as a great way to catch up on reading.

This book and story is great. The problem is this movie has been announced to be in production since 2012. I believe this is the 3rd time. I dont know what the hold up is but I will believe it when I see it

I just downloaded Among the Bros by Max Marshall. It was excepted in a New Yorker article I read. True story about a fraternity at the College of Charleston running a drug ring.

Just finished Being Henry which is Henry Winkler's autobiography. Downloaded it on a whim because I loved The Fonz while I was growing up (who didn't?) and enjoyed him in Barry and Parks & Rec. I was surprised on how much I like it. Very light reading, nothing too deep.

Also recently finished Glory Days: The Summer of 1984 and the 90 Days that Change Sports and Culture Forever. Great read. Perfect for spring break or summer vacation. Talks about all of the culturally significant things that happened in the summer of 1984 from Michael Jordan coming out of college, getting drafted by Chicago and signing with Nike, Mary Lou Retton, the LA Olympics (spoiler - email was basically invented to communicate with the athletes during the games), Prince and Purple Rain, Hulk Hogan & Cyndi Lauper and the rock and wrestling connection. Many other things as well. Possibly the most influential 90 days in the history of sport and pop culture.

And finally the best book I've read in the past few years - The Mosquito Bowl by Buzz Bissinger of Friday Night Lights fame (you should all read that too if you haven't already). A true story about WW2 and college football - what more do I need to say.

Allow me to provide a link to my blog.

Some may find some interesting mostly non-fiction books to try.
