-Now that's sad and this is the 2nd twitter blunder to come out of South Bend. At least Jeter saw the light and jumped ship, maybe his next decision wont be so rash. That program looks like titanic right now. And ironically, Notre Dame just gave him a contract extension this year. They might be stuck with him after the Charlie Weis fiasco. Hope those PA recruits enjoy there time in South Bend with a Coach that blames everyone for his own failures and is now starting to get hated on by his own players, the fans, the coaching staff, and the administration.

Notre Dame's best defensive lineman has some interesting recent likes.

HHHHMMmmnnnn, put some of this up last week, and some our Posters told all of us there is NO WAY KELLY will be removed from ND and now all of sudden it is becoming a fulfilling prophecy?????? I never understood many years ago why would any Recruit or Player want to play under Coach & Coaching Staff?

I can understand plating for Notre Dame but under Kelly, is not a wise move, and his Staff is a joke!

They still probably won't fire him. The twitter account never really said anything, just re-posted other things other people said. He'll be given another year, but if he's looking at 2-4 next year....he won't make it to game 7. If the NFL come sniffing this offseason...as it alsways does, then he'll go.

If he doesn't get to a bowl game with that schedule, I bet ND makes a move despite the huge buyout. ND has no problem paying 3 coaches at one time. I believe Willingham and Weis are off the books at this point

I don't know if he's going to go? He's obviously in big trouble and a big part of that is very clearly related to his truculence.

He just has so many years left on my contract that it's hard to justify paying all of that money to someone to not coach your team - even add a cash cow like Notre Dame.

I think Kelly is going to be given another year or two to get the ship turned around. That might be a mistake but that's how I suspect this is going to go.

How long as Kelley been at ND? At one time they had a policy of giving any coach a minimum of 5 years regardless of results.

He's got atleast one or two years.
There's still a lot of people to throw under the bus!
Right now he's waiting for another bus!
No more room under the first one!

Notre Dame, with its "entitled" fans, has to be one of the tougher jobs in the country.

But having said that, the situation that he's in couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

at ND BK was 55-23 coming into this year. He has a huge buyout. I don't see him getting fired after this season. Depending on his options, he may look elsewhere on his own.

I am not sold on this ND job automatically getting the next "top guy" like a Herman or even Miles. That job, although pays well, is tougher than most with very little "room for error." Hatred aside, I would take about a dozen jobs in college football over that ND job.. Texas for one in a heartbeat, yeah you got to deal with crazy expectations there too and of course wealthy redneck boosters who want to call the plays and have access to practices because they donate big money, but you get that crap at all big time programs..

3 Big Problems for Notre Dame as I see it.

1) They are 2-5 this year and have problems on offense and defense. And are going to lose the #1 2017 NFL draft pick at QB. Next year doesnt look much better

2) There may be a number of other job openings. USC, Texas, Oregon, etc. could all join LSU looking for a new coach, meaning more competition to land a good coach.

3) There is not a lot of coaching talent to cherry pick, and they could easily strike out with something worse. Besides Les Miles, Tom Herman, and Larry Fedora, and the new guy up at Boise, there isnt some huge list of good coaches. There isnt much else to cherry pick at this point. And considering Notre Dame is on pace to having its worst season in about 50 years, thats a job people may turn down to not have the pressure of a fast turnaround. Its interesting they said Les Miles. He's about to turn 63, and its been 4 years already since he's had a 10 win season. Miles might be washed up at this point.

It is sad, but how a Football Program has to suffer when a Coach as a Person stays on due to his Contract when it is clear his Personality is a major problem and the University has to accept it just due to the money aspect.

What a terrible way to teach, coach, and demand others put up with his behavior and misjudgments as an Educational Institution of Higher Learning just because they made that mistake on two other occasion and still paying?

Pitt did the same thing under Nordenberg for Steve Pederson and how the Universities cry for more money and has such wasteful Sports Spending just because they can give away such money, but this kind of mismanagement is an indication of poor values and one would think they would smart up on contracts, but when they sign these people is where the mistakes are made, due to wanting them any cost.

DRVY, Excellent posts on many subjects not just this one, I might add, very much appreciate you intellect and insights, thank you!

The whole world of sports is pretty bizarre. Colleges hand out 6,7, 10 year contracts like candy. Seems like more often then not, these long term deals blow up in your face. Not sure what can be done about the situation... the number of really qualified big-time coaching candidates with a proven record is pretty small...I guess the market rules but it's sure a risky game.

Yes and its a market that's self correcting when coaches given lucrative long term contracts fail, hurt programs, reduce program revenue, etc.
Watch except for a few elite coaches contracts will have shorter terms, they'll be less lucrative, and may and imo should include incentive compensation not fixed compensation!
You get what you earn as opposed to whats going on at Notre Dame!
