OT: Bryan Reynolds a bust?

The Pirates invested in two good players that each have a certain set of strengths.

It’s probably less than those guys would have gotten on the open market over the life of the contract, but more than if they would have gotten lucky and found the next 2 cheap young good players.

They may not be superstars, but it was necessary to stack talent. Because if couple of the young guys really become elite, then they are part of a nice window of contending baseball. Otherwise, they just keep developing and losing them before they have enough.

The Reynolds extension was an interesting decision. The term was not too expensive, but he was gonna be pretty old when be hit free agency, so he probably made the right call signing the deal. He's a solid player that should age well, but he needs to hit more this year.

Dude stinks. Has no power. Can't get on base. Goes cold often. Average fielder and runner. Waste of money.
Agree. Not worth the money the Pirates paid for him. Dude since his first week of April has 2 HR's. He stinks at the plate for way too long before he gets hot for a week. Then he sucks again.

Hindsight is 20/20. Reynolds has been pretty consistent the last few years. Sometimes players press too much after signing new contracts...especially given the Reynolds situation. Requesting a trade with dissatisfaction over contract talks, before coming to an agreement.

I am not excusing his swoon, just suggesting that he has shown productive consistency in years past. He may not match last years' power numbers, but his record deserves more time to evaluate. Besides, Pirates would be criticized for not signing their best players again if they had not signed him and traded him for unknown prospects.

In other news...talk about a puckered anus after a signing following one good year on a loaded team...

I wouldn't call him a bust, but Nutsack and Charington have to be disappointed in his performance since they decided to pay him. The power numbers since the 1st 2 weeks of the season can only be considered dismal.

Its likely past the super 2 deadline. They need to bring up some of the real prospects to put a little less pressure

I guess David is wrong too huh Joe? Everyone is wrong except for you.

I have no idea who David Todd is. I've never heard of him before. I mean I can understand why you'd take the opinion of some random person on the internet over your own, but rest assured that I do not.

But like I said before, it's as if you simply can't understand that it is possible to both want someone to be producing better and yet still think that they don't completely suck. For you, the world is completely black and white. You are either exceeding expectations, or you suck. No middle ground. Ever.

It's a ridiculous way to think about sports, and good god, I hope you don't live your whole life that way.

On another note - saw the Reds up close and personal beat the brakes off the Astros Saturday and it's deflating to see the difference in talent level between them and the Pirates. The Reds are legit!
