OT....Bucs

Cardinals remaining schedule (including today):

vs Milwaukee 2 games
@ Pittsburgh 3 games
@ Atlanta 3 games

Pirates remaining schedule (including today):

@ Cubs 2 games
vs Cardinals 3 games
vs Reds 3 games

The Pirates would have to go 6-2 or better and the Cards 2-6 or worse for the Pirates to win the division outright.

Possible but I'm just not seeing the Cards losing at least 3 of 5 vs Milwaukee and Atlanta. I can see the Pirates sweeping the Cards and going 6-2 or better, I don't think the Cards are going to go into a slump and be 2-6 or worse this last week of the season. Maybe a tie and then we get 1 more game (at Busch I assume) with the division title on the line? But probably not that either. I think the Bucs end up just a game or two short.

Sweeping the Cards would be tough but since the Cards rarely lose, especially to teams like the Brewers and Braves, a sweep looks to be the only foreseeable path. And that is dependent on winning the other games like today and tomorrow in the Windy City.

Yeah, the problem in the whole scenario is the Cardinals three games with the Braves. The Brewers can beat them (obviously, since they did last night). Being in the same division the Brewers at least have some incentive to beat the team that has won their division the last few years. Maybe you could see them beating the Cardinals once more. But the Braves? They've quit. Their season is over and they are playing like it. There's probably a better chance the Cards sweep that series than the Braves winning even one game.

If the Pirates want to win the division they had better plan on winning out.

I get the Madison bumgarter fear of one and done, but the Cubs don't scare me. Not at PNC

COLE is just this close....this close, to becoming the new Mad Bum 2015 and wiping out the playoffs start to finish..

Agree about cole. The guy is electric. The only way I see bucs losing wild car is swinging wildly at Arrieta ' s change, having a pedro moment at first, and losing a 2-1 type game. But the Cubs bats don't scare me

Arrieta has been scary good in the 2nd half so that is reason for concern. Cole is a straight up stud, don't get me wrong, but Arrieta has been ridiculous.

I do think that if the Pirates play the wildcard and get past that they're gonna beat the Cardinals.

Arrieta is having the best second half by a pitcher in a long, long time. If you are a Pirate fan and you aren't the least bit concerned that he shuts out the Pirates or maybe only gives up one run you just haven't been paying attention to how good he has been for the last two plus months.

The day may come when Cole puts together a streak like the one that Arrieta is on right now, but you shouldn't hold your breath because it isn't very likely.
