Finally went to see it on IMAX last night. In spite of them essentially reshooting the entire film due to negative screenings and focus groups, this movie was actually really good.

anyone else have a reaction? Hoping Marvel has righted the ship. Lots of content coming this year.

I thought it was pretty solid. I think in general marvel has a hurdle to overcome with new characters and storylines but i think it was a good start.
They just got way too broad in scope and had too many storylines to intertwine. Like, whatever happened to Agent Carter and the Zemo character from the previous captain America projects? Was also disappointed to not see Fury and Shield involved in this one.

I think they broke some hard and fast rules with movie making storylines by trying to appeal to the really hardcore comic book folks. Like, you're never going to make those people happy so why try? The vast majority of people just want to be entertained for a couple of hours.

I think I'm pretty much done with Marvel. I just can't keep up with it. Same thing with Star Wars. Too much content. I love TV and movies as much as most. But how in the world do people have the time to watch every series and see every movie? If I did that, I'd watch nothing other than Marvel. A shame, because I do like them. Just don't have the desire to keep up with it all.

See I don’t see it as a problem. There are so many shows and content out there streaming. It’s no different than keeping up with 4 seasons of Yellowstone or 80 episodes of breaking bad. I think Marvel released on 1-2 theatrical films last year and only 1-2 streaming shows that amount to 3 hours of viewing in a years time.

Good to hear -
May take my son this weekend
This film is going to lose 300 million, but it’s not because it wasn’t good. It was. It’s probably because Marvel in this phase has released so many stinkers that people are no longer going. Combine that with all the negative press this movie got because it’s taken it years to make because of all the reshoots, etc…I guess people figured this would be another Eternals, or AntMan, or Secret Invasion, etc that underwhelmed. If this film came out and kicked off the next phase after Endgame, it would have grossed a billion.

Pretty sure the audience scores have been good too, and that wasn’t the case during screenings. So whatever was wrong they fixed. Is it perfect? No. But it’s a good night out with little Souf.

Might want to rewatch The Ed Norton Hulk film beforehand. And watch Falcon and a Winter Soldier. This film serves as a sequel to those. And of course, Celestial Island (created in The Eternals) serves as a back drop too…but a full watch of that film isn’t necessary.

Missed Zemo for sure.

Nobody needs to see either of the older marvel Hulk moviee:)

I may be the only person who liked the Eternals .
Other than the silly fight with the mega- deviant - which could have been eliminated and the movie wouldn’t have been altered at all

That hulk movie was pretty bad. That was from a time super hero movies weren’t good, even though Iron Man came out before it and kind of changed the genre for the better.

But in this captain America, I didn’t know who the baddy was, figured he was from that Hulk movie (I only saw it once and it was a long time ago), and then confirmed it later via the internet (and I’m not talking about General Ross). So it’s good having that movie top of mind before seeing this. Interestingly, it really is a sequel to that movie in many ways. And we know Marvel is not allowed to do “Hulk” movies due to contractual issues, so they squeeze the IP into other movies.

As far as Eternals, I’m hoping to see Kit Harringtons character show up again.

This is me for both Marvel and SW. I don't want to have to consume 15 different types of content just to understand what's going on in a movie. If you tell me I needed to read Book Y to understand a character's backstory, you've failed.
