OT: Carnage at Rutgers

Down to 12 recruits after a slew of flips. We'd be in meltdown here if that happened but judging by their board, they either don't care or are in denial.
Maryland having the same problems. Big Ten Former DC's OSU's Ash and Michigan's Durkin, looks like they want to tear down what is there and rebuild it their way!

Coach Narduzzi started late at Pitt and just stated he is glad for the recruits that chose and want to be at Pitt! Ash and Durkin looks like they have a Plan!
Good luck to them as they rebuild!

For some reason Ash wouldn't start his new job until the OSU bowl game he spent most of his time hiring a staff and really put him behind the eight ball. Durkin if he had kept Locksley none of this would have happened but he didn't so he's getting his first big ten beating.

Denial. The guys who have flipped were "never really Rutgers material anyway", whatever that means.

Over on their Rivals board (which I long ago dubbed "Rutgerzeera.com"), there is, incredibly, a recruiting-oriented thread titled . . . "MARYLAND is now a dumpster fire". LOL!!!

We've been there before, lived it.. It's too painful to even laugh at when happening to others..
Having been there, I won't celebrate their troubles.

We've contributed a bit to their current problems, but that was a "We owe you one!" considering what Rutgers did to Pitt after Wanny was dismissed.

I wonder if the BIG10 is going to go to the return counter with the Rutgers purchase.
Reason for the return:
+ product was not as advertised
+ product malfunctioned
I hope the BIG kept their receipt???
I always lose mine.

They need a Coach that knows New Jersey and can keep just 50% of them to Rutgers and will have pretty good Teams. Schiano did it!

What is amazing is both Maryland and Rutgers after losing many Commits, still are ahead of Purdue & Indiana?

Franklin is living in New Jersey and Maryland going back and forth to poach what he can, but his coaching is what he needs to practice and improve?

Even Temple recruited below most Big Ten Programs including Purdue and Indiana, and still beat Franklin's Penn State????

It is definitely denial. When we played them regularly, I would occasionally venture over to their message board to take their temperature on a variety of issues of the day and what I mostly learned was that as a rule, those muthafu#$ers are batshitt crazy! Like disturbingly so. They had no clue how they were perceived by the outside world. It was at times hilarious and at times frightening. However, it was almost always completely fascinating.

Honestly, the Rutgers fans rival the Penn State fans in terms of sheer batshittery and I didn't even think that was possible.

I used to respect the University and Program and welcomed their rise in the Big East. I even wanted them in the ACC and upset they were not invited?

Yet, they came on the Lair attacking Pitt when Penn State was ripping them for years? In time, they became a bigger problem for Penn State and Maryland Fans more than Pitt or any ACC Program!

Good luck with that too! Just wish them the Best and at least are in a Power Conference but need to avoid being a Bottom Feeder in BB and FB! Maryland has pass them as well and will do better anyway.

Looks like Ash is turning the Red Knights into "Rutgers To Ashes Way!" Just like Paterno did the "Penn State Way Legacy!"

Maybe after Franklin is let go by Penn State, he could end up at Rutgers or Maryland and then recruit against Penn State, and then the Scarlet-Nittany Liars Fireworks would really keep happening?

Or Shoop could end up there as Head Coach if Ash or Durkin can't work out? Now that would be a Grand Experiment bring President's Loh to Higher Heights Under Armor!

I'm pretty sure that we all know how this story is going to end. I don't believe that good things are in the future for those programs. If Illinois and Indiana have never been able to figure out how to compete on a regular basis in the B1G, Maryland and Rutgers sure ain't.

Right, Good observations. Disagree a tad! The Big Ten has done so well in making money that even the weaker and once Bottom Feeders can compete now by funding all 85 Scholarships, improve facilities, and pay for better coaching! There are 28 Programs now making more $100 Million every year, and 18 of them on in the SEC and Big Ten when just 3 On Total Programs were doing it in 2008 in all of CFB! Still, gaps are still developing now in Conferences and between Conferences and that difference comes from Finding and Keeping Good Coaches with a College President Visions and having a Great A.D. that can implement it for the University?

As I see the Big Ten, they will continue to increase their Programs but still tough to take on the Top without Great Coaches?

Michigan and Ohio State Elite Programs are just the Cream of the Crop of the Big Ten Historically, Famous Players, and Financially, and not just in the Big Ten but in all of College Football. Those Two Universities demand excellence in CFB and will dismiss anyone that cannot provide it, with less time than many others in the Big Ten! So, once Ohio State and Michigan have Great Coaches, they have Great Teams because they have all the History & Resources to win within their Elite Program that are Top 10 Programs in every way!

The Second Tier are the Big Ten Universities that depend on Great Coaching that is consistent in keeping their systems in winning 10 Games per year. This goes in cycles to take on Michigan and Ohio State and depends on Great Coaching. MSU has been there now over 5 years and last year beat OSU & Michigan showing just how Great Dantonio is doing. Alvarez has had Wisky winning for over 15 years and sharing Big Ten Championships!

Iowa and Nebraska goes in cycles right now, but Iowa has a Great Coach in Ferentz. Nebraska is still adjusting to less status than UM and OSU in the Big Ten, and has a Great Program too but still in search of a Coach since Osborne retired? They go in cycles now too, but Nebraska has been tamed by UM & OSU just like Penn State was reduced to less status and that happen under Paterno breaking the Rules, but was still a Great Coach, but got a few lessons and more than one from Michigan and Ohio State after joining the Big Ten?

Northwestern being the only Private University and smallest is winning with Elite Management of its Sports. They seems to find, attract and hold onto Very Good Coaching without Top 15 Salaries and Resources, Top 50 Recruiting, or Top 60 Attendance, and moves in and out of Third and Second Tier Status. In addition, Northwestern Coaching, but has been beating Penn State and even has more Big Ten Championships than Penn State since 1993! They are happy to win 8 to 9 games and keep Academic Standing over being a National Power and that will never change. One has to admire their prowess in knowing priorities and staying within NCAA Compliance too.

Penn State still has a Top 15 Program but the Penn State Football Scandal now requiring the Nittany Liars to follow all the Rules and Laws of the "Paterno's Era Errors" that left their football in tatters. They blame many others at Penn State and can't accept it happen under Paterno?

Now they are dealing with a Paterno's Ruin Legacy that they cannot accept? Yet PSU Fans demand can't be forgotten and so nothing is moving on in that kind of deluded and Divided Administration & Fan Base that wer lied too in many wasy, and came back on them and Penn State?

Even worse, they refuse to acknowledge that it was Paterno (Lacking Control Over Joe's NCAA LOIC) demanding to stay as long as he wanted for his 409 Wins that really needed a Bigger 409 Clean Up, and not just in the Sandusky Lasch Showers, but on Title IX, Clery Act, The Second Mile Corruption, Paterno-Trustees Business Interests, Many Joe-Sue Relatives $100,000+ Employment jobs that Sue had one too, Players treated different than Students, Arrests, Rapes and even a Murder by one of their Former Recruits, was just too big and too dirty to cover anymore?

The real problem actually was not controlling Paterno while he was controlling and threatening anyone or everyone letting his image get ahead of morality just promote and protect a corrupt Program? Talk about "Pathological" between Paterno-Sandusky what a Pair? Great Coaches but with hidden dark sides!

What really was the bigger problem was after choosing the Big Ten, Paterno Coaching was just not up to par and lost an edge to keep up with not just Michigan and Ohio State that were dominating him? Joe couldn't keep up with better Big Ten Coaches with less Big Ten Programs than Penn State in the Big Ten?

Penn State allowing JoePA to stay on beyond 70 was the bigger problem. Joe's Coaching was no longer up to par and could not beat Iowa, Wisky, and others in the Big Ten let alone keep up with UM & OSU!

Joe without question was a Great Coach and built a Powerful Program, but his own ways in doing it, left Shaming Penn State Name. Penn state is really in a dilemma now. It was Joe that reduced Penn State to Second to Third Tier Status in the Big Ten and nothing can change that ruined legacy, that many Fans & Alumni want back, but can't admit was built on Joe's flaws and all more than just Joe's Coaching Awe?

Even Bradley, Johnson, O'Brien, and now Franklin can't correct the problems and disunity at Penn State. Penn State can no longer attract a Great Coach or keep Great Assistant coaches until more years pass to forget the Paterno's Debacle Years and Legacy, they want to still honor???

After they fire Franklin, and that is coming, or Franklin may leave knowing it, they have to get lucky and catch a Penn State Alumnus Coaching to just bring Penn State back to Second Tier Status 8 to 9 Wins? Meanwhile, Penn State is just as happy to promote Soccer, Volleyball, Wrestling, Hockey to replace Penn State Nittany Lion's Football's Failures In The Fall!

Fans will be delighted with 8 wins and that shows how low they have gone? Penn State may be the Third Profitable Program in the Big Ten, but they are now behind in cycles of winning with MSU, Wisky, Iowa, and Nebraska in just challenging Michigan and Ohio State?

This leaves Minnesota & Illinois that requires Good Coaching just to win 6 or 7 Games from time to time?

Followed by Long Time Big Ten Bottom Feeders in Indiana and Purdue that prefer Basketball over Football. Although they are now getting far more money to fund all 85 Scholarships, their histories have a tough time finding good FB coaching and keeping it.

Rutgers has the recruiting base in New Jersey to attract Great Players just in New Jersey but boy they need a New President, A.D. and New Facilities and that does not include New Coaching if Ash cannot work out?

Maryland is in the same boat, they have a President that claimed he knew the Law on not paying the ACC Buyout, but ended up paying $35 million to settle it? They also have good Recruiting Grounds, a Booster to support the program along with Big Ten Money, but need Great Coaching too.

Until that happens at UMD they will be down there with PU & IU good in Basketball but a struggle to advance Football? Rutgers lacks all 3 too, no BB, FB, or coaching until they correct it! Both would be doing better in the ACC and Penn State too in at least Winning!

Coaching Matters just as much as being invited to the right Conference that is better fit for Winning More too!!!

Captain, will the Clery report EVER get released for ups?
Are politicians fighting to keep it under raps?
Doesn't every school have to release it by a certain date?

They listed in the Papers the Congresspersons that introduced a Bill on the NCAA. Maybe some people instead calling the NCAA on Violations should call Reporters on what happen to the Clery Act Illegal Non-Reporting and Title IX Investigations? As well as some Inspector Generals at the Education Department?

Women Victim Rights are doing this with AG Kane and Senators are now backing off removing her from Office!

Only one way to change and make Politicians afraid, ask questions, print answers, that can cause losing votes in an election year?

Just google the Penn State Clery Act Violations and see Reporters Name and ask what happen, it was suppose to be made public in April 2013?

The B10 lost their receipt and can't return the defective Rutgers product. But they have no one to blame but themselves for simply making a very poor purchase. There wasn't a single good reason for adding them to their conference. And please, there aren't enough TV sets in NJ tuned to Rutgers or B10 sports that amounts to anything. There was a time when expansion started, when they had their pick of schools. They took Nebraska. Then Missouri was theirs for the taking (with plenty of TV sets in STL and KC) if that matters. But no, they chose Rutgers. Wow.

Their was some trade talk that Penn State was upset about the Sanctions and Big Ten Bowl Money Share Losses still not restored by the way. So, they expanded East to help out Penn State. There was plans to go south towards Virginia and North Carolina, Notre Dame joining and Grants Of Rights ended that expansion. When Delany heard it, they said he was noticeably glum at the NCAA Meetings!

It was a way to buy into the myth New York City is Rutgers Country, but new York City is not even a great College Town for any college. They love Pro Sports!

If Rutgers can find another Schiano that knew how to unite New Jersey High School coaches towards them, they can become competitive in the Big Ten.

Once Big Ten East became a reality and Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State became a new reality in playing Penn State every year, that is what Penn State Fans in nightmares and Franklin can't fix it. Maryland beat Franklin by 1 point in 2014 and lost by 1 point in 2015, so they will be more competitive too, once they find a New President and if Durkin can turn it around?

Yes, Captain, the B10s southeastern strategy blew up, as their attempt to destroy the ACC failed miserably. They held their noses when taking MD and (especially) Rutgers as a necessary step one, but the end game was not only blocked by the ACC sticking together, but they then saw their own territory encroached upon when the ACC added ND and then Louisville. I'll bet Delany was glum when he heard the news.

Thanks, also recent ACC Players successes in Post-Season Awards, First Round Draft Picks and even today CBS put out an all Bowl Team that ACC edges out even SEC Players, has caused even more consternation for Delany!

Delany still wants Notre Dame and New TV Contracts coming out in 2018 will bring more Big Money in and that his goal now to attract other Programs with eyes towards Big-12 and ACC.

SEC and B10 having 18 $100+ Million Programs out of 28 will keep growing with Conference Networks and ACC Swofford inability and delays, along with Big-12 Bowlsby not expanding put them still in play and prey between SEC & B10 Bigger Buck$!

One thing that is in jeopardy in the short to medium term for the B10 is their TV network. They are extorting money out of cable providers, squeezing a few pennies out of each customer each month (amounting to millions) even though most don't watch it.

But as people pull the plug on all-in media like cable and go to ala carte models of purchase, that B10 gravy train will come to a halt. Their only customers will be those willing to pay a hefty monthly fee, and their numbers are small. Then the difference between school payouts in the B10 and other conference schools will narrow.

And MD will wish they were back in the ACC.

I hope the Big 10 gets their ass handed to them. Trump gets elected and along with a republican congress takes money away from obnoxious ultra liberal schools like Michigan. Hurt them on the research side by scaling back NIH grants, etc. One can only wish.

Rutgers is far and away better now with their new coaching staff and AD then what existed previously. You probably don't understand what a huge dumpster it WAS; time will tell, of course, but most fans, especially the football savvy, are very happy with the hires.

As a aside, I'll think we're seeing a renaissance in NE college football. A lot of good recent hires.

Do you really think Rutgers will only have 12 recruits? I think we have 3-5 3 stars recruits that replace other 3 star recruits as well as some 2 stars. We expect to get our spread QB, Tylin Oden, who de committed from Louisville which is our main concern. This class will be better than the last 2 years even with the short time Ash had to recruit. Flood did a terrible job recruiting the last 3 years and anyone would be an improvement. Due to Flood our defense was about 100th the last 2 years when we were top 15 when Schiano was coaching. Ash will improve the defense with his eyes closed. Everyone knows Ash will take 2-3 years to turn it around. Even with Flood, we had a 9-4, 6-7, 8-5, 4-8 seasons, the last one caused his firing.

I don't expect to beat the big 3 consistently Ohio State, Michigan or Michigan State but expect an occasional upset. If we stay competitive with Maryland and Penn State, that's great. Maybe if there are coaching changes, the order may change. This is the same as your own situation, you haven't prove you can beat Clemson, Florida State, or Georgia Tech. Miami and Va Tech will really get stronger with their changes and it's a question mark if you can move to the first tier.

Sure, let's stop funding research to prevent and cure diseases. We can send the money to Bob Jones University and they will pray for our health instead.

I'll give you pure batshittery... they actually believe Narduzzi approached Rutgers about the head coaching gig... and that the Rutgers admin turned him away. What's even weirder is that the thought of this doesn't trouble them at all.

Definition. Of. Batshittery.
