OT ...Cubs fans in Cleveland

As a Pirate fan I don't think I will have to make that choice.

Why not? Cubs are NOTHING historically compared to the Pirates, Pirates won FIVE World Series during the first 71 years of the lovable LOSERS drought. Cubs on the field are to baseball, like the Arizona Cardinals are to football, a century of failure. Pirates at least can point to way more success and way more championships then that hapless franchise.

I must be getting old or maybe it's that I've been to so many sporting events in my younger days, not sure but I prefer watching any sporting event on tv over being there live 99.99999% of the time.. Honestly, if it wasn't for tailgating, it's not even a question..

I think someday soon, the PC police will end tailgating. When that happens, I will never go to another game again, I go every year to 2-4 football games and it specifically for the party, not just to see the game.

Cubs were also bought by a billionaire who is pouring tons of money into making Wrigley Field a destination and also fielding a top-notch team. He brought in probably the best baseball mind, spent a ton on free agents and scouting. Nutting.....bought some ski lifts for Seven Springs.

Except that that game seven in the Burg was not even a sellout. McArver blasted the pgh fans on national TV about the lack of enthusiasm.

that game was lost before it even started. When Van Slyke was called out on strikes with the game tying run at 3rd in game 6, you could just here the collective wind go out of everyones sails.

Bingo. Exactly how I feel now. I have "been there and done that" in my sports life. So if there really isn't any side activities (tailgating or pre-post game dinner/drinks), I really don't get that big of thrill from going to games anymore. And the advancement of TV's makes this even less.

Heck if your kid was on the pitch that night, you'd probably take a can of beer for the ticket!
I don't even get the tickets in advance for Pitt, I get those on game day. Although I always get some Steelers tickets in advance, I had tickets to the Steelers/Jets 3 weeks ago, and I thought I may have to be on the "pitch" for a tournament that weekend, I was about to put them on eBay or Stubhub, but that "pitch" thing fell through, so I went to the Steelers game :)

And Game 7 of the WS? I haven't watched a WS all the way through since 1979, even this game 7 this year, I watched maybe an inning or 2, I was tired, wen to bed around 10:00, baseball means exactly ZERO to me. The only games I've watched in their entirety on TV since 1992 where the Pirates playoff games 2013-2015.

Sure, I said "Historically", over the course of HISTORY the Pirates are way more successful.

i knew football, 3 rivers held 59k. not sure why I thought baseball was less. I know they did the tarps for regular season and they slid the lower sections over for football but did they keep the tarps up for playoff games?

No tarps in the playoffs.

Watched Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals at a bar in Shady Side and sat next to a guy that had Pens season tickets. He said he had sold Games 1 and 2 on one of the reseller sites and was contemplating what to do about game 5. Said he probably was going to have to go. That's not a bad compromise, actually. Probably made quite a profit on the first two games and had a chance to see the Pens get the Stanley Cup on home ice. Of course, those tickets weren't going for $10k, either.

Steeler fans do this all the time. Some travel to the out of town games, some are Pittsburgh natives living out of town, and some are people with no tie to Pittsburgh who have adopted the team because of their success. They buy the tickets from season ticket holders, who of course, make a nice profit. The result, Terrible Towels galore in opposing stadiums.
