The first Dean has been named for the new school that will combine the School of Information Sciences and the Department of Computer Science on July 1st.

Paul Cohen, a program manager at DARPA and founding Director of the School of Information at the University of Arizona:

This new school of Computing & Information has been discussed in some threads.

Pitt seems to be mining government positions again. DARPA has some incredibly cutting edge people there. Looks like a great hire on the surface but I don't know the field.

Fantastic addition to the University. I only wish it had come sooner for our son. I did notice with some surprise that Computer Engineering will move out of Swanson into this School.

Computer engineering isn't moving out of Swanson. I guess there will be some joint aspects but the program isn't moving

Interesting. I've linked the page, but didn't realize that even though they are listed as part of the program (see to the right), they aren't officially under the umbrella of the new school? Confusing.

It's definitely confusing but to be CE at Pitt you'll still apply to and take classes thru Swanson. Several classes have always been cross-listed with Computer Science and Computer Engineering. For now at least. ;)

Thanks for the clarification. As it appears CE's will be able to list 2 schools at graduation. ;)
