OT: Did Gerrit Cole throw a game when he was with the Pirates?

The way he spun it was that he “wasn’t one to go back against his word and shy away from a competitive challenge,” but IMO this could be easily interrupted to mean he threw a game away by doing Giancarlo Stanton a favor while pitching for the Pirates. What say you?
 
joking aside, pretty crappy to do. not the end of the world but you'd rather not have your pitcher throw a meatball gift to the opposing batter to help them get out of a slump, especially in a tie game..
Guessing it happened after the Pirates just gave up on a 98 win club and refused to improve it. Weird how his numbers tanked those last two seasons.

It was his rookie season and he thought he could blow one past a slumping All Star so that he could always hold that over him and have a story tot ell. Sometimes people forget that it's still grown men playing a game.

He had a great season, maybe if that team could actually score runs that one pitch wouldn't have changed the outcome.
