The theory I heard of what the drones were is hilarious....and probably true. A few people saw a couple drones, posted online, created mass hysteria, which prompted other drone owners to fly their drones in search of drones. So people were seeing privately-owned drones who were up there looking for other drones. Inotherwords, a bunch of nothing.
"After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized by the FAA for research and various other reasons," Leavitt said.
That just means they weren’t from foreign intelligence agencies, it still leaves open that our government could have been looking for something really harmful.

First of all, I would take anything any administration says with a grain of salt. I’m skeptical of trumps administration and I would have been skeptical of Biden’s if they had said anything at all…but they didn’t. It’s our job to be skeptical.
But conspiracy folks, including blue anon, could have been silenced if government showed any kind of transparency. They instead let it go on for weeks without easing the minds of people in Jersey and throughout the country…because when they did make statements, they said “they didn’t know and were gathering facts”.
I'm just disappointed that it was NJ instead of somewhere like Alabama or even Florida. Really wanted the good ole boys to start shooting them out of the sky. 
Well never heard that, but the Democratic governor and several congress folks from Jersey also openly questioned the source and frustration of not being told anything.
The previous admin already said that were authorized flights and not nefarious .

Well, hopefully the drones are US military development, and if they are we’ve made some nice improvements the last couple years.
But as dumb as some people in NJ are (and I live here so I know 😀) - the belief that locals are reporting hobbyists flying things is way off.
Are hobbyists flying drones? Sure. But it would be like seeing a giraffe and confusing it with a chipmunk. These were much bigger, with impressive maneuverability that most of our fixed and rotary wing platforms don’t have, and covering distances that off-the-shelf civilian stuff can’t do. We watched it from our driveway, and my 12 year old ran into our doorway and begged us to come inside. (She wouldn’t do that for a radio shack drone flying around taking photos).

I always found it funny when people claimed the drones were "looking for something", Northern New Jersey is one of the most densely populated areas in the country, if something fell from the sky it would have landed somewhere were people would have noticed.

SMF right again. Remember when I said people own drones and fly them? I have never seen such hysteria over nothing. Many, many people own drones. And all these "sightings" of airplane-sized drones were in pitch dark where you can barely see anything. And maybe, just maybe, the airplane-sized drones were actually, ummm, airplanes?
I envisioned someone having nuclear material in a basement, that would have likely been stolen.
Didn't Trump say he wouldn't be traveling to NJ at the time the drones were seen? I assumed that he was briefed and that they were looking for nuclear material. Now he can't tell us?
