I noticed last week that I get quite a draft coming from my gas fireplace when it’s cold outside. I could lay a blanket at the base of the fireplace, but I’m guessing that’s not very safe. I heard that they may make covers for them for such scenarios. anyone have any experience with this or know where in south hills or Robinson area of Pittsburgh to buy such things? With tomorrow’s weather, it may be necessary.

Thanks!

If it's a the actual fireplace /chimney those kind of things typically have a way to shut off the fireplace when its not in use.
They key is to open it back up when it's in use.
A fireplace has a flue that opens and closes not sure how your gas insert is installed.

Are you using the fire place? Be careful covering it and using, carbon monoxide.
Thanks. Yeah. Just looking for something to place in front when not in use in the winter to block the air.

My kid just lost a former classmate to carbon monoxide poisoning a couple of weeks ago. He was living in a rental, which had carbon monoxide detectors, but the batteries were removed for some reason. Very heartbreaking story. We went out and bought three detectors for every level of my house and I installed them.

Yeah it’s just a gas fireplace.

Yeah it’s just a gas fireplace.
Is it a converted wood fireplace? The metal wood fireplaces often have a way to draft outside air for combustion, that can be open or shut. If it's a converted gas fireplace they may have left the outside air combustion door open.
