as the camps will start over the next 2 weeks.........

The Pens are still a serious Stanley Cup contender. But.......more than that. I am not sure if many people are realizing this......but if the Pens win the Cup this year, you know what happens? They are as a franchise, without question, without debate, the GREATEST post Original 6 franchise in the NHL. That is, they will have won their 6th title, more than anyone, but not just that, when you are the franchise of Lemieux, Jagr, Malkin and Crosby with those 6 titles, you are the kings. No one can touch you. The Oilers and Islanders were great, but that was a single team. This is a franchise who has had more scoring champions than anyone over the last 30 years, and more Stanley Cups over the last 30 years.

Pretty special if you were a young hockey geek like I was during the Pierre Larouche/Rick Kehoe days.

You could argue Pens rank ahead of three O6 teams. Boston and Chicago only have 6 Cups and have played 40+ more seasons and NYR only has 4 in nearly 100 years.
Montreal Canadiens
23
Toronto Maple Leafs 13
Detroit Red Wings 11
Boston Bruins 6
Chicago Blackhawks 6
Edmonton Oilers 5
Pittsburgh Penguins 5
New York Islanders 4
New York Rangers 4

Yeah, I know which is more impressive. But those teams and those Cups, I mean when it is 1/6 chance to begin every season to win the Cup........

What is funny is Montreal, from 1916 to 1993, never went more than 12 years without winning.....1932 to 1944. They are now on Year 25 and no where close, and I mean NO WHERE CLOSE to being a contender...so they are likely going to at least go 30 years between cups.

After last season, don't have confidence the goaltending as I had, and there are always going to be concerns of defense (not even just the defensemen but the overall ability of the guys on the lower lines to tighten it up at key times). But the Pens can't help but be in the mix.
