. . . with the program there and Dambrot? That’s 3 players leaving in the last week!

Doesn't appear that the local media is interested. I'm betting that wouldn't be the case if this was happening at Pitt.

No, the local media, who knows nothing about basketball, thinks he greatest coach in the country. They won’t say much about it.

Well, I’m sure one of the local sports sleuths will be contacting all 3 of the Dukes’ starters who left to give them a public forum to speak and allow them to air their grievances for all to hear.

Just to set the record straight, of course.

Yeah, right after they contact Nelly King!

Dambrot likely too tough on them. Who would many of you clowns want now as a coach and what team is better, us or Dukes? I wish we weren't dodging them.

I didn't see any of it (for which I am eternally grateful) but their win this afternoon over Fordham must have been excruciating to watch. 48-45 final in 61 possessions. The teams combined for 7-47 from three. 14 and 15 turnovers each. Fordham had a guy who played 37 minutes who did not score (0-10 from the field). 14 guys total played at least 10 minutes, which is the minimum that Pomeroy uses to give a guy an offensive rating in the box scores on his site. Of those 14 guys five of them and an offensive rating better than 86. Duquesne had eight of those guys, their ratings from best to worst were 110, 106, 98, 86, 70, 66, 56 and 53. Fordham had six of them (they only played seven all game), 134, 125, 77, 66, 27 and 17.

Ouch.

Ouch.

They looked awful against Davidson the other day, too. Blew a double digit lead. Pitt would smash them again this season.

I did watch and it was horrid.

You guys make me laugh. I mean some you did in fact actually go to college, graduate and have decent jobs right?

The local media is rarely interested in college sports, less so in college basketball and definitely less so in regards to Duquesne. Take it as a compliment that they cover more what happens with Pitt (both good and bad) than Duquesne.

And I surely remember when Duquesne had like those players involved in a shooting, it was covered pretty extensively.

But Duquesne basketball hasn't been relevant since before I was legal to drive a car. And I am now in my 50's.

Where did all the posters that were talking up Dambrot go? I have no issue with him, but things aren’t looking real good right now.

Been following CBB for a long time. Have never before seen 3 starters quit a team within a week of each other, during the season.

Have to wonder what the issues or problems are? Because in the case of these 3 it certainly wasn’t playing time.

They've made it very easy to transfer. Two of those players might be transferring down a level as they weren't very good. Carry might think he can move up. He was considered a p5 level recruit before he blew out both knees. Apparently his knees are good, and he may think he can move up. The kid that left for Oregon has shown he's definitely a big time player, and maybe that's what's inspired him to make the move. I don't want to cast any stones as you know we're gonna have some departures at the end of the year. You just hope it's not a key player.

Yep. One of the things I’ve always found interesting about this site, too, is to see what topics arouse the ire of and strike a nerve on which posters. It’s pretty consistent.

How many players have bailed on Duquesne during Dambrot's reign??

There is some Covid fatigue for sure with respect to Duquesne. I think the other thing that might have affected their players is the no new arena still. Busing up to Larouche and playing in a gym has to suck

Agree. There will be loads of players transferring from many schools with the liberalized transfer rules. Quite possibly including Pitt. Many of the transfers throughout CBB will be due to playing time or players having been recruited over. Likely the majority of them will be after the season.

What’s strange about the Duquesne situation is they were all starters and/or were playing a lot. And it all happened right in the midst of the season.

Carrey is going to transfer up to a power 5 school. Austin evidently does have some issues and according to a friend of mine who is a die hard Duquesne alum, Austin has a sibling who died last year or so and he hasn’t been the same since. Hopefully he just needs to get away from basketball and school for a short period and get better.

Well, Carry is going to Kent. I guess they are a P5 school in the MAC since they are the fourth best team.

Good news: they’ve had enough guys quit that Murphy will get big minutes.

Bad news: now we’ll get threads updating us every time he scores a point for the Dukes.

mixed bag

Add to the Good News: Murph Dog is bringing back the bow and arrow!!!

So, he did it 1 time out of the 5 shots he took? While it's still early, he's shooting 20% from 3PT range this season so far. He shot 33% at Pitt. Someone who is known to be a "3 point specialist" should be shooting over 40%. He was 28% in Junior College.

I went and looked up the numbers for Micah Mason, who was a local kid who had a rep as a 3 point shooter. I was shocked to see he was over 46% for his career, including a year at 56%. That's a 3 point shooter! He couldn't have started for Pitt, but he'd have been a useful bench player. Murphy isn't even in the same universe.
