They are starting to peak. Cutch looks like Cutch again...not having locke and liriano running out there every 5th day...Kang started to turn things on, and the bullpen is back to being lights out.

Meanwhile the Cards and Marlins are dealing with a slew of injuries, and I honestly could see them fading down the stretch.

In any case, I find it funny that the multiple threads from guys like Del, MVK, and TD have disappeared this month. I wonder why?

They have come on. I still don't think they make it, still pretty far behind the giants and 1.5 back of the Cards, who seem to be playing better despite injuries. I kind of expect the pirates to play a bit above .500 baseball the rest of the way but I think its going to take the giants collapsing or the Cards tailing off to make it.

It's not a bold prediction, they're only 1 game out of the WC.

They are only 1 game back. The cards have tons of injuries. Who knows what the Giants will do. The Pirates on the other hand are mostly healthy, new additions to the rotation like Kuhl and taillon are doing well, and the bullpen looks excellent again.

watch this be the year they get past that 1 game playoff. Will be our worst playoff team, which isn't bad. Better to be a terrible playoff team than a great team watching the game from home..

They are back to finding ways to win games plus having young arms like Taillon & Kuhl in the rotation aren't hurting either. I think they get one of the two spots.

Pay no attention to the games behind column. It's all about the loss column. They're even with the Cards in losses.

Del was right. They just go out and beat the weak teams. 5-1 on a West Coast road trip to LA and SF......pfffft that is nothing.
Both LA and SF are slumping badly at the moment- once again you prove you are asleep at the switch and that you are experiencing one of your typical roller coaster mood swings..... Up and down, up and down. Do you actually have a position on any subject or or does yor viewpoint change with the weather?

Heading into the Pirates' series the Dodgers winning percentage since the All Star break was almost exactly the same as it was before the All Star break (it was actually a couple of percentage points better after). Heading into the Pirates series the Dodgers had won four of their previous five. The Dodgers then won both of their next two games after the Pirates series, and the last I saw they were winning again tonight.

Once again, you and the facts, complete strangers.

Giants 5-7 in 12 games before they played the Pirates...you big dummy!

I didn't mention the Giants. The Giants certainly have been struggling lately. You did mention the Dodgers. The Dodgers most certainly have not been struggling lately. One of us is, indeed, a big dummy.

Look! In your mirror! There he is!
Dodgers having big pitching issues at the moment, dummy. You know zippo.

It's quite funny how this season has gone. Right now every team in the wild card has glaring issues. The Giants have been the worst team in the majors since the all star break. The Dodgers rotation is about as thin as I've seen in years. On top of that the Mets are collapsing and the Cardinals can't stay healthy.

It's quite amazing a year ago 97 wins got the second wild card spot. This year 86-88 wins lets you host it.

They are, and yet when I posted that last night they had won six of their last seven games against teams other than the Pirates (and seven out of ten if you count the Pirates games). If that's your idea of struggling then every team in major league baseball would love to struggle like that.

If you really think that winning six of seven or seven of ten is struggling then you understand all this even less than I thought you did. And I wouldn't have believed that was possible.

So hard to make that jump in the wild card game when you don't have an elite pitcher and every team you're facing does. Don't get me wrong Cole is good, but he's not anywhere near the level of the kershaw's, baumgarners, or Arrietta's

I was at the game last night. I saw cutch turn 20,000 screaming fans transform quickly into a funeral viewing with one swing of the bat. The bases were loaded with one out and we trailed by one. He hits a one hopper to third, 3rd baseman steps on third and throws to first and game over. Just when I thought he was coming out of his slump he let the team down big-time. No playoffs unless Cutch can be Cutch-in-the-clutch again!

Seriously?

They're 2 games out of the wild card with another team in between them and the Cardinals. If the front office had been serious about winning with a team that won 98 games last year, they'd be in the driver's seat for hosting the Clint Hurdle Invitational yet again.

They are in this position because the front office punted in the season with Locke, Niese, and Nicasio in the rotation for almost four months. They refused to call up Taillon for three months, when he should've been up late April. They are now today just giving Josh Bell his first start, four and a half months of mediocrity of John Jaso later.

Neil Walker is having arguably his best season as a pro while Niese was complete garbage. The front office fans will still defend that trade. And they downgraded not only at SP with that trade, but 2B too, with Josh Harrison being one of the worst 2B in the league.

They're four games above .500, break out the champagne, lol. At least they saving money though, which is all that matters to the front office and the front office fans.

Nothing's changed. They win three and then lose three against garbage competition. They are a mediocre BB team in a league that allows mediocre teams to pretend they are in a pennant race until Oct. The pitching is lousy; the everyday lineup is average. Competing for the second boobie prize spot doesn't change the fact that they stink and the owner doesn't care about winning so long as you bobblehead types are excited about a .500 team because they are in contention(LOL) for a second boobie prize spot. What a joke!
