OT: it’s never a good idea

I saw that. That's freakin' terrible.

The same sort of thing happened to the son of Pat Summitt when he was coach at Louisiana Tech. He got fired but, is still married to the gal for whom he was fired, his PG at the time. Of course, his first wife divorced him.

Moral of the story, some people suck at life.

Extreme example of a coach loving a PG who can take control of the game.

i think this happens a lot more often than we all think. a college coach, HC or asst coach, dating an undergrad athlete..

i'll go so far as to say it is pretty common. obviously not a good idea but most of the time, it doesnt end up this bad where a coach gets fired...

i mean, they are adults, i know for some reason we dont consider a 18-22 year old undergrad an adult but they are..

I agree. I've always gotten a little creeped out by men coaching younger women in sports.

Nobody is saying that college students aren’t adults. But it’s still gross and inappropriate. It’s a power dynamic thing. It’s no different than a professor who starts a relationship with a student, or a superior at a company starting a relationship with a new employee. Or, what’s probably a better example is a lawyer starting a relationship with a client, or a doctor starting a relationship with a patient.

Nobody’s saying that they should be arrested. But it’s gross and they should definitely be fired for it.

i dont know, you see it in a ton of womens sports. our successful volleyball coach is a guy, do you think that's creepy?. you see it in swimming, gymnastics (yeah i know, not a great example to support my case).

i think a women's HC should be a woman but that dude from Uconn is a top 3 all time Womens BBall coach so hard to argue.

throw in assistant coaches and it happens.

why is it gross? there is a power thing there and it causes issues, i agree. a lawyer banging his client? I think that's fantastic.. a doctor dating a patient, again, that's not bad.. hell, the patient might get some additional free medical advice, a win-win for both sides..

obviously most companies frown upon it and have rules about a superior dating someone that reports to them, for this very reason. and i think you'd be very surprised how many professors and grad assistants are dating undergrad students.

I’m definitely aware of how many professors and grad assistants are dating undergrads. It’s gross. I understand it’s a bit of a relic of a prior era, but that doesn’t make it not gross. It’s a good thing for everybody that professors/GA’s who do that today are named and shamed.

There’s a reason why a lawyer can be disbarred for starting a sexual relationship with a client. It’s gross! It’s also against the code of medical ethics for a doctor to start a sexual relationship with a patient. It’s gross!

There’s absolutely a power dynamic between a coach and an athlete. That’s not even debatable. Especially at the college level, when the coach first develops a relationship with the athlete when they’re an actual child. It’s gross!

Just saying that I think it happens often enough that I'm always just a little suspicious of a man coaching young women. I feel like men coaching men and women coaching women eliminates that suspicion from the back of my mind, although even then inappropriate stuff happens.

To be clear, I don't think very many male coaches go into coaching women's sports with bad intentions. But sometimes chemistry happens and it's hard for a guy to resist when tempted by an attractive, athletic young woman.

that's how i feel about male teachers teaching elementary school or especially a guy who is a boy scout leader who doesnt have a son in boy scouts.

I pretty much agree. Its just a professional morals violation but in real life, there's really nothing wrong with 2 consenting adults starting a relationship no matter their professional role. Against company policy, university policy, sure. But they are adults.
