Del's favorite time of the year.

Anyway. Predict Bucco record. Breakout Player. Player to Regress/suck.

And if you want, predict MLB Division winners and playoffs. Here is what I got.

Pirates: 77-85. Continue that back slide while they hang on to those prospects as they turn into raisins instead of prized grapes. Breakout player? I think Polanco has a big year. Regress? Unless Garrit Cole can figure out how to miss bats, I am going here.

NL Playoffs:
NL Central Cubs
NL East Nationals
NL West Dodgers
WC 1 Giants
WC 2 Mets.
I like the Dodgers over the Cubs

AL Playoffs:
AL Central: Cleveland
AL West: Texas
AL East: Boston
WC 1 Toronto
WC 2 Astros
I like the Red Sox over the Jays

World Series: Dodgers over the Red Sox

not feeling good at all about our beloved buccos. I expect delpanther to annoy the heck out of us from april all the way thru October with his anti nutting rants, gloating about the buccos demise.. 72 wins, tops.. Hope I am wrong.. Amazing how fun it is to watch a competitive baseball team..

75...no pitching staff. Glad we unloaded Loriano for the garbage Nutsack received in return, shrewd move motivated by a guy who wants a championship.

85 wins, no playoffs. I think the starting rotation will be solid now that Niese, Locke and Vogelsong are gone but the bullpen looks mediocre and they don't have enough power in the lineup now that Kang is not here. Breakout player is Felipe Rivero. Guy that will regress is David Freese.

I'll be the lone optimist and predict 88 wins and a wild card fight up until the final week where we just miss out to the Cards.

Breakout player - Jameson Taillon. He'll have a great year and begin to become well known outside of the Tri-State area.

Player to regress: Hard to predict on this one. I don't see that anyone has much room to regress. Harrison and Cutch already regressed. Marte and Polanco are still on their way up. I'm not going to go as far as saying he'll regress, but Josh Bell will have some growing pains.

NL Playoffs:
NL Central Cubs
NL East Mets
NL West Dodgers
WC 1 Nationals
WC 2 Cardinals
Cubs over the Dodgers for the NL pennant

AL Playoffs:
AL Central: Cleveland

Same can be said for you....homer!
I like baseball and I like Pittsburgh, hence im a fan. if that makes me a homer then so be it.. If the pirates make you so miserable, then stay away from the games and of course the topic at hand.. It's your right to have an opinion but why attack any fan that likes the pirates? That's what is annoying about you.. it's like those people that hate soccer and anytime someone posts a soccer thread, they come on here and blast it.. hey, I hate soccer but I don't want to ruin pro-soccer threads, im not a jerk off.. The NBA is painful to me but if someone starts an NBA thread, I don't come on here and knock it.. again, common courtesy..

82-80.... I think Cole, Tailon and Nova all win 12+ games.

Polanco with break out year.

Rivero will be closing by end of May.

Pitching overall prevents them from winning more than 82. Kang not playing is also a big time loss as he is a legit middle of the order bat.

I am super excited to see Bell and watch Polanco develop.. He's a 30-30 guy IMO. I wouldn't hate the idea of Marte hitting a HR every once in awhile either...

I'll say what I want about the Pirates. There are thousands of people who share my view. I you want to live in your little cocoon, in your state of denial, that's your choice. But you have no right to attack people who criticize this ownership for their OBVIOUS minimization of the value of winning over financial returns. And you attacked me, Bucco, in your post so please quit feigning your occupying the high ground in this debate, because that's ground you don't occupy. You had NO OTHER purpose in the type post you made than trying to discourage criticism of this ownership and to shine a negative light on me!

pretty much a prime example of exactly what im talking about. Any bucco thread, expect del to come on here an urinate all over any talk.. No matter what, he'll be here to tell us all how crazy we are for liking the pirates.. never gets old.. And don't expect any other point than the one he's made time and time and time and time again.. Same point, over and over.. Just in case there is one person on pantherlair that may have forgotten it, he'll be here to let you know his thought on the subject.

In my opinion this year is totally dependent on the development of Josh Bell and Tyler Glasnow. I think if the pirates are going to be successful, these two are the keys to that success. They need to start living up to expectations in their first full year as big leaguers. I'll give them 85 wins just narrowly missing the second wild card

I pretty much hate baseball. But I grew up a Pirate fan in the '60s and '70s, the golden era IMO, and didn't really decide that I can't stand baseball at all until the '90s. I follow the Pirates every day though, always checking to see if they won or lost, and when they are on TV I might watch a few at bats (that's all I can stomach before I can't pay attention), and I watched their playoff games the last few years. And I am planning to see them one of the nights they visit Camden Yards this year.

But I'll be like the anti-soccer jerk off here. Last night I watched a few minutes of Cubs/Cards on ESPN, and god, I couldn't take the mind numbing, sleep inducing DULLNESS of it! I mean they where interviewing some dude in the press box, while the batters took 90% of the pitches playing for a walk! LOL! Then I switched it over to FS1, Portland/New England, Major League Soccer, I watched maybe 10 minutes of that and it was non stop movement and several exciting sequences of near goals, I had no feeling of boredom and desire for sleep like I do with baseball.

You completely misrepresented my post which says a lot about YOU. And you attacked me yet again. You're trolling pure and simple, applying your self-styled censorship.

Well in all fairness to baseball, nothing can compare to a Portland - New England soccer game

No one is attacking you, I said your incessant rants on every pirate thread is annoying. Quit being so sensitive.

yes, you are! Everyone else in this thread rendered pretty much the same projection as me and yet you singled me out and proceeded to attack me.

I'm not talking about the cities or the league, to me a girls high school soccer game is more exciting than World Series Game 7, it's the sport itself that puts me to sleep.

It was always a slow, deliberate, boring sport, but I think the whole money ball thing made it worse, playing for walks, taking pitches, avoiding the risk of base stealing, super specialized relief pitching. It's just been made totally stripped down of "action" in favor of playing percentages.

cool, we all have our preferences.. it's the beauty of life, if we all liked the same things, it would be a boring existence.

pitt79, I find myself having a hard time focusing in on any sporting event, for the whole game. we like to make fun of millenials and their ADD - ADHD culture but im telling you, I think living in our technological age has effected us all. I cant sit thru a whole baseball, hoops or football game without having to check phone, turn channel during commercials, etc..

I love pitt football and steelers but I've learned to do the DVR thing and start watching an hour later so I can fast forward thru commercials and the endless amount of "instant replays." And that's for a sport and teams that l love.. College hoops with the timeout after timeout followed by a tv timeout and the end of these games being foul shooting contests, players playing 3-5 seconds of live action only to be interrupted by a foul with the slow walk up the court to the foul line.. It's such a fragmented product, it's becoming painful. Funny thing is about college hoops, the second it becomes fluid, some actual live action with scoring, a coach will call a timeout to stop any sort of momentum.

At first, I thought sports were changing (like with everything going to instant replay) but im starting to think we are all changing with the times.. Im at the point where I cant even sit thru a red light without picking up my phone and checking out the web or a text. It's why hockey is so appealing, no timeouts, no stop in play, games are pretty quick, relatively speaking. I guess you could say the same for soccer..

I do the DVR thing too! I'd be very, very happy if they got rid of instant replay in every sport, I find that I don't mind living with a bad call as much as I mind waiting 5 minutes through a review, then seeing a result change, or not and still feel like they didn't get it right-it's just not that important TO ME, for things to be perfect, it's just a TV show. And for football, I believe you could seriously get rid of 50% of the rules and nobody would notice! Like all the anal formation and substitution rules! And basketball, I'd be fine if they did like hockey and had only one timeout per half. But baseball, I can't even think of anything to make it more exciting? Maybe bring back steroid mongoloid freaks that can bash 70 HRs again, LOL. You're right, hockey and soccer are the rare sports we can watch where the action is pretty constant and some "authority figure" isn't constantly stopping the game play to throw a little flag or blow a whistle.

great post, I agree with everything on here with exception of baseball. just grew up loving it so it is what it is. I can see baseball fans diminishing as generations get older though. Cant stand instant replay, give me a wrong call over every dang first down, TD, reception and out of bounds play going to the monitor...

At least it's not golf where fans can call into a number and have infractions brought up.. Female golfer lost a tourney because some dude called up from his house and said she marked her ball wrong. 24 hours later, she got 4 stroke penalty. That's about as pathetic as it gets.. Imagine nfl fans being able to call up and complain about a call/non call and the league looking into their complaints and possibly over turning a game, a day later?

I think they're a 83-89 win team depending on how the bullpen comes together. If Cutch stays healthy he will bounce back because he hasn't lost bat speed yet and he's just too good to not overcome last year. The front office will not trade him this year. Losing Kang definitely hurts from a power standpoint but Bell could make up the deficit.

Golf is just ridiculous with that! It's happened more than once.

And with soccer they have it good now, clock never stops, no replays, etc. But the damn AMERICAN BASED TV announcers are all whining for instant replay! The foreigners never bring it up! I certainly hope the rest of the world doesn't let America ruin their sport too.

Cubs over the Dodgers for the NL pennant

AL Playoffs:
AL Central: Cleveland
AL West: Texas
AL East: Toronto
WC 1 Boston
WC 2 Astros
Jays over Cleveland for the AL pennant

World Series: Cubs over the Blue Jays
Just look at some recent history. How many repeat champions have we had in baseball? Or even the losing team to make it back or make the playoffs period. So that being said, don't look for the Cubs or Indians to be there. Not saying no playoffs, but no repeats.

Pirates: 89-73... I think this squad has a chance to be really good this year. While I think losing Kang hurts the ball club on the field, off the field I think it is good that the distraction is gone from the clubhouse. Offensively this is going to be a good team. I really hope Bell can hit enough to make up for his defensive liabilities. I think Cole gets back on track, I think it was very important for him to get through the spring healthy and no real setbacks. I don't think he is going to be 2015 good but I think he can get it going. I really think Cutch wins comeback player of the year. Anyway I think it is going to be a good year to be a Pirate.

NL Central: Cubs
NL East: Mets
NL West: Giants
WC 1 Dodgers
WC 2 Pirates/Nationals 1 game playoff

AL Central: Indians
AL East: Red Sox
AL: West: Astros
WC 1: Texas
WC 2: Yankees

Astros over Giants in 6 games

It took a tremendous series of things-gone-wrong last season to fall from 98 wins to 78 wins, including injuries and unexpected major collapses of two of the keystone players in Cutch and Liriano. Being a Pirates fan, I'm conditioned to expect all of those things to go wrong again (and then some), but realistically, I expect a rebound back to wild card contention. 86 wins is my pick. The early schedule is brutal and we have guys with histories of slow starts, so it could just be a game of survival in April to get to to a very favorable schedule over the hot summer months.

Everyone focuses on who they lost, who is declining, and expecting an unproven prospect or two to flop. It's easy to forget that progression of the young talent that are not 1st or 2nd year guys should improve the roster. Cole, Marte, and Polanco are poised to take steps forward. Cutch should be improved. The current rotation may have a lot of youth and inexperience, but with Williams waiting in the pen and Kingham and Brault as viable 2017 MLB arms, you have real breakout potential beyond just the 2 guys that made the end of the rotation. One guy at AAA that everyone kind of ignores that I think could surprise and make an impact in 2017 is Frank Duncan. He has potential to be the ground ball machine that the Bucs love. Nova needs to be a solid #3 and healthy. While young and somewhat unproven, the make-up has me much more encouraged than Locke, Neise, and Vogelsong in the starting day rotation last season, even when I thought Liriano would be good at that time.

Go Pirates and H2P!

Well my old buddy Del annoyed the heck out of everybody when they won 98 games, second best in all baseball in 2015 so a barrage is expected for sure this year.

you'd think those successful years would have quieted him down. It's like psu fans coming over on our board a few weeks after we beat them, talking smack. It's like, "whoa fellas, we won, go away til next year, that's how this works."

haters gonna hate..
