I wouldn’t fire him, but he certainly should be done for the rest of the regular season and post season.

I think it was in November that Howard received a nice raise, of $6,000,000, in the contract update from his original deal. He's now over $3,200,000 per year and his results this year are bad. They are 8-7 in conference with some tough games remaining.
I think he should be suspended the rest of the season and into the conference tournament. But, that could just be used as an excuse for their bad record.
I also think if he hadn't gone after Maryland's coach last season he would be given more leeway. No matter what happens from here on out he will not be looked at the same way ever again.

Suspending him for the rest of the season is probably fair. It hurts him and his program, which I guess is deserved if they decide to keep him on.
If I were Michigan, I'd be looking at this as an opportunity to dump him for cause. See if Beilein wants to come back for a few years given he's still local.

If you watch it closely, Howard says his peace and is walking by until Gard puts his hands on him. Then they are jawing back and forth. This is on both of them.
Both coaches and at least #0 for Wisconsin should be looking at a minimum of a 10 game suspension.
All of that said, the B1G is ok with athletic programs raping children they probably view this altercation as a step in the right direction.
Gard touches his elbow in the handshake line. Then the out of control punk took a swing at another Coach. Fire him and ban him from college basketball. He is supposed to be setting an example for his players not causing what could have been a injury causing riot. If it's good enough for Woody Hayes it's good enough here too.
Gard grabs him and is the one who started the escalation. Like I said, both coaches are responsible for their actions and both should be getting a suspension for "not setting the example".

Gard clearly starting the altercation has nothing to do with Howard's responsibility in it. They both should be suspended for the reasons you stated earlier.
All of that can be true while holding Gard responsible for his part. It's pretty plain and simple.

it’s not a silly logic at all. We know Howard’s intent when he escalated things because he has a history. Everyone is jumping to conclusions based on trying to grab his arm, as happens probably 10 times a night post game handshake lines between head coaches, to justify a 50 something year old man swinging on another man. It’s insane
