Anyone who is watching the Pirate game that has any input on the play. Looked to me like the guy kinda slid a little too hard up near his shin. I don't think the MLB hands downs any punishment, it wasn't an extremely dirty play or anything, I just think the guy purposely kicked his leg up at the last second and slid very high. Hoping it's nothing too serious though, I think Kang's a guy that needs to be a regular once the playoffs start.

I'm not there, but on Twitter they said it look bad and it is his left knee.
Yeah watching the game on TV he was down in a lot of pain. I'm almost being optimistic when I say I hope it's not serious, it looked pretty bad. I really hope not though, Kang is one of my favorite players.

Clearly hyperextended his left knee, bent backwards. Now the only thing left is MRI to see if any of the knee ligaments are torn. Even if only sprained, this is a painful injury. It stiffens up, defensively, and it takes a lot of physical therapy to loosen it up and make it bend freely.

Pirates are really snake bit lately. When they pitch, they don't hit, when they hit, the pitching is off. Even when both are clicking, they are having trouble scoring runs, no clutch hitting.

Cutch given day off, probably needs it after the last two games of this Cubs series. Cubs off to a big start, Morton sucks today. Bullpen gassed from last two games. Bucs better snap out of it or they'll be in Chicago for the WC game. St. Louis has 5 more games with the Brewers, and unlike PIttsburgh, they know how to pummel these bottom feeders. Meanwhile we have road games at LA and Colorado, along with a big series in Chicago.

Sure hope they pull this one out today. It would be HUGE! They need to get on a roll again and hope St. Louis slumps. Never know, but clearly don't like the setup.

Snider homer! 3-1, Morton pitching like average Charlie Morton today though. Gonna need a big inning here soon at the plate.

They've won 8 of their past 9 series? While averaging 4.5 runs a game?

When Morton's sinker is working and he can throw his curveball for strikes he's pretty good. When the sinker isn't working, he's a batting practice pitcher. Cubs walloping him pretty hard today. He's dodged a couple of bullets to keep this from becoming a laugher. He better snap out of it soon or this game will get away!

I agree I've actually always been a Morton fan. Only recently has he really been starting to give up hits that are actually hard-hit balls. Used to be almost every out was a groundball, that's when Morton is really pitching good.
Polanco goes yard! 3-2, still a lot of baseball left at PNC today.

That's true, but as Bob Walk said, in their situation, winning series isn't enough. The Cards are seemingly winning every night, at least winning when they have to to maintain their lead.

I'm not down on the PIrates, I'm impressed with what they've done this year. It is now crunch time and the past two games were winnable with a clutch hit in key situations. Can't win them all, but we're getting to the point that you need to if you want to catch the Cards or hold off the Cubs.

Mercer with a huge mistake there. Pedro at the plate hopefully that doesn't cost us a run.

Bob Walk is an idiot stuck in 1980 (no offense to Walk on that, 99% of baseball announcers are). You can't control what other teams do or worry about what they do. They've swept the Mets over that span, took 3 of 4 from Miami, took 3 of 4 from Milwaukee, and 2 of 3 from the Cardinals.

If the Cardinals keep pace with that, good on them.

Now THAT was a clutch hit, from a very unlikely source...El Torro!
Bucs up 4-3. Keep adding because this is going to be a barn burner!

Bob Walk is an idiot and you're the expert? Is that accurate?

Bob Walk's lone qualification is that he played. Same thing that Harold Reynolds and Charles Barkley have going for them. It means nothing. There's a reason guys with that type of mentality are being run out of the game in decision-making positions.

You mean like Joe Torre, Clint Hurdle, Mike Matheny, and on, and on?????

Kang out for the rest of the year. Broken leg.

At least he will get to see his family in South Korea.

All of whom aren't and weren't particularly intelligent in making optimal decisions. They were given good teams by their GMs. That's what matters.
Stunningly arrogant! I presume by your handle you played PItt baseball, and that is YOUR resume, unless you also stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

So managers don't have input in front office decisions?

Cubs back on top after Charlie serves up a meatball to Rizzo with a an on. Like I said this one is going to be a 10-9 deal. Better get Morton out of there, or this one is going to get away!

Managers have stunningly little influence over front office decisions.

And, no, I would never use past playing days as any sort evidence of knowing what's going on. I've just read articles that present actual evidence rather than fairy tales about somebody's ability to "be clutch" and "have that fire in their belly that gives them the will to win".

And the ball Rizzo hit out wasn't even in the strike zone. Not a meatball, but by all means be as Pittsburgh as possible and give no credit to the opponent for being damn good in their own right.

This take out slide on the pivot man is done multiple times per game by every team. Dirty? maybe but is done all the time. Kang's foot was planted when the runner hit into his leg. My guess is a hyperextension as the knee bent strait back, which it isn't supposed to do.

The Bucs should go "Tonya Harding" on some of the Cubs better players to even things out. ;)

(Just kidding, for those who'd take it seriously.

LOL, they've been clobbering Morton all day! The eye test????

So, you don't believe certain players deliver more in key situations? It's all sabermetrics? How boring! Might as well play computer games. Maybe you do?

Cubs now up 5, Pirates running bases like little leaguers, making errors, Cubs banging Pirate pitchers around.

Think they'll win this series against the club that is chasing Them???
Also good this board has plenty of comedians, too.
All for entertainment, never take anything here too seriously!

9-6 now. Hope my 10-9 prediction comes true for the good guys!

No, I don't believe in clutch, at least in terms of it being anything besides unpredictable and uncontrollable randomness. This article posted 2 days ago does a good job of explaining why. Boring? Maybe. But I'd rather in be informed than get all bent out of shape about how a team may or may not possess enough of something that hasn't been proven to exist, or whether they adhere to the antiquated media narratives that are constantly trotted out.

It's baseball. Weird stuff happens and it's completely unpredictable series to series and game to game. Head to head matchups and results mean nothing. Maybe that's a boring view, but I happen to think it makes the game great.

You played club baseball at Pitt and you're now the qualified one?

Gee, you wonder how they even played baseball before computers! The players are flesh and blood humans, not robots. Some guys are cool, calm and collected under pressure, some aren't. Some thrive in the spotlight, some don't. You can believe what you choose to believe, but don't get your panties all bunched up when someone doesn't buy in.

They played it with a lot of bunting and high fives for hitting the ball on the ground behind a runner.

I don't get my panties in a bunch, just tell them they're buying into a dream and a prayer and try to provide actual evidence. If they choose to keep pining for narratives, that's fine by me.

Huh? I never played club baseball, didn't know there was such a thing? I'm not professing to be "qualified", just a fan with an opinion. As entitled to that as much as anyone!

I have no idea why level of play would have anything to do with qualifications. Those things seem totally unrelated. Guys who never even played in high school are influencing the game more than ex-players ever have. Harold Reynolds embarrasses baseball every time he opens his mouth.

Last night was a soporific preview of the Nutting boobie prize wild card play in game just around the corner. Can the Bucs score more than 2 runs against one of the league's best pitchers?

It's baseball....who knows? Playoffs are a total crapshoot, I wouldn't bet my life on anything, Pirates related or otherwise. Definitely wouldn't have bet on them to beat Cueto 2 years ago, that's for sure.

Scherzer no-hit the Pirates earlier, next time they got to him pretty well. They did pretty well against Kershaw. They've been shut down plenty by aces and scrubs.

If a pitcher, good or bad, is spotting his breaking ball on a given day then the offense has no chance.

Kang done for year. MCL tear and broken tibia
Oh my. How terrible. I assume he wouldn't be healthy until later in the season next year? Or do MCL's heal more quickly. Either way, get well.

I just hope he's healed up next year, and not the next Rennie Stennett.
