You’re probably thinking who the f*ck is Mark Adams. And that’s point.

Texas Tech HC. They just went on the road and beat Baylor who hasn’t lost in forever.

Look at his resume…

1981-82, Clarendon College, Head Coach
1983-87, Wayland Baptist, Head Coach
1987-92, West Texas A&M, Head Coach
1992-97, Texas-Pan American, Head Coach
2004-13, Howard College, Head Coach
2013-15, Texas Tech, Director of Basketball Operations
2015-16, Little Rock, Assistant Coach
2016-2021, Texas Tech, Associate Head Coach
2021-present, Texas Tech, Head Coach

The point is that there are good coaches everywhere. Sure nobody is a guarantee… but you can find good coach and high level experience isn’t the end all be all. Just find someone who’s shown they can build a program and win and let’s get this program back on track.

BINGO. It is what I am saying when I said about looking for a recruiter over a coach. Find a good coach. Coaching matters. More than recruiting.

Have known about him for years. Not only did they win tonight they did it without their star player Terrence Shannon who will play in the NBA.

Adams works his tail off and is a really good person. A close friend of mine had a kid he was Guardian of play for them, the kid was a knucklehead but Adams did everything he could to help him out. My friend has had health issues the past few years and Adams checks in with him routinely.

Their roster was pretty much gutted after last year. Adams with his connections rebuilt it with transfers, JC etc. It’s nice to see good people have success.

Thought about the same thing with their upset of Baylor tonight and they beat KU on Saturday. He at least inherited a nice Texas Tech team from Beard. Agree with everyone’s comments above. A turnaround can happen semi-quickly these days.

I know a guy whose got victories over Duke , FSU , Syracuse , Louisville with inferior talent , maybe Pitt should hire him !

My fear is we’ll be saying this after the next coach they hire is here for awhile .

This is a well paying job , the problem with it is that it could also be your last as the big cheese !

Why? We hired a coach who was basically ready for retirement (Stallings). And then we hired a coach who it turns out is way more concerned with taking care of his assistants than winning.

They are both incompetent for different reasons but there’s absolutely 0 reason a good coach can’t have Pitt annually in the middle of the conference.

Guess we’re just going to have to wait and see what happens.

If you think this is the best we can do, how do you get any enjoyment out of this?
Been tough .

I enjoy watching college ball , but until Pitt is willing to truly invest in being a winner I don’t see how they can lure the players or coaches they need to be anything other than ordinary .

After the texas tech game last evening I googled adams. He quit coaching for four years and bought a minor league hockey team located in Lubbock. His resume at pan American included a 2 win season and a 4 win season. You never know I guess

Mark Adams is why Chris Beard was a good head coach. He came up with the defense.

He is responsible for all of the inferior talent and many many losses. What college though is he at again?

Jamie was struggling as was KS and now JC at closing the deal so I can’t wait for the next guy so we can see all the great talent that’s going to rush in !

I don’t know why Pitt struggles so much , but whatever the reason is that is what concerns me . I’m not sure Pitt can hire a coach to change that without a change in philosophy in regards to booster involvement .

Adams “No Middle” D played a huge role in the success Beard had at Tech. There is a reason more and more teams have turned to this D philosophy. It’s no coincidence that when National Champ Baylor decided to start using the same D they went to the next level.
