A little tardy on this, but a lot of Gen X'ers that grew up watching MTV and listening to WXXP are probably still in mourning over this one. RIP Mike Peters.

I didn't hear this, thanks for posting. I know he had a cancer battle that he publicly shared, sorry to see
I think musically we have this in common? Do you guys go to any of the small venue shows that these acts from the 80’s are probably playing? A friend of mine asked me to go to a Bob Mould (Husker Du) show yesterday but I was traveling. Plus I wasn’t much a fan. But I’m thinking I should start paying attention to some of these types of shows and start hitting some of them. Is there a site that aggregates all of these small bars/clubs and their schedules?

I'm not aware of any site that details this kind of stuff.

I planned on seeing Mike Peters in Cleveland last spring. But he ended up cancelling when his cancer came back.

I just randomly check my old favorite bands from time to time to see if they are touring. Got to see The Jayhawks this past fall by just finding it on their website.

Been looking to see if Cracker or The Cult are touring. Unfortunately, it looks like I just missed Cracker who came to Cleveland in January. Doesn't look like The Cult is doing much in the states this year.

Yeah I travel to Cleveland pretty often so that’s another place I’d like to keep an eye on.

The world has shrunk. I’ll check out anyone if it’s easy to get to.

Mike Peters was also the lead vocalist on Big country’s last album, The Voyage, released in 2013.

Shame. I know he has been battling cancer off and on for years. I saw them at University of Buffalo way back in 1987, had like 3 rows off the stage. They toured colleges along with George Clinton and PFunk, Level 42 and I forget who else. Fun times. It snowed....was supposed to be an outdoor concert they had to move inside. It was the first week of May. Welcome to Buffalo.

I have never heard of this band. It's weird because they seem to have been popular? And I like punk.

I wouldn't consider them punk. More like a more acoustic U2. If I'm lumping them in any genre, I'd put them with U2, the Waterboys, Midnight Oil (although they were Australian), Big Country & Simple Minds. Likely influenced in equal parts by Bob Dylan and Slade with little touch of The Beatles and the Sex Pistols. "Rain in the Summertime" was probably their biggest "hit" in the US. They clearly wrote that one with the idea of making $ in mind. If you listened to "alt-rock" before Nirvana, you would probably know it. Top 40 rarely played them though.

I feel like they were just a hair too late or they would've been much bigger than they were. Like 2 or 3 years earlier and they'd have been huge. Plus, half the time he was singing about politics in Wales and no one really gave a shit about Wales. U2 had Ireland - way more interesting things going on there to sing about than Wales. Only interesting thing about Wales was their Princess.

Regardless, those first 3 LPs (Declaration, Strength, & Eye of the Hurricane) were fantastic. Almost every song was a sing out loud anthem.

This bummed me out. I saw the Alarm at the Tower Theater in 1986 and the Mann Music center (opening for Bob Dylan!) in 1988.
God speed Mike.
