Why is he so desirable?
I’m guessing they got turned down by a couple of their top choices, and Woodson is like their plan D or so.Gotta admit this one surprises me. Other than being a former player I don’t understand the hire at all.
It died after Knight left.Yes they’ve had a couple good years but nothing like Knight did.Kind of like us losing Sherrill in football.More makes me wonder if that job is so desirable. It certainly wouldn’t seem to be what it once was.
Those go way back.Early Knight era.The first thing he should do is ditch those striped warm up pants.
That would piss off some of Alumni
That’s pretty much how I see it as well. only those of us who were college basketball fans while Knight was there would understand how strong that program. IU then was a blueblood for sure.It died after Knight left.Yes they’ve had a couple good years but nothing like Knight did.Kind of like us losing Sherrill in football.
Yeah that’s just what college sports today needs—less tradition. The first thing he should do is ditch those striped warm up pants.

The question is, who are the right assistants? I’d imagine you’d want one guy with a lot of collegiate coaching experience and another one that would be their lead recruiter, leaving the last chair as a wildcard. He is 63 years old and he has the exact same amount of college coaching experience as those of us posting on this board. If he doesn't hire the right assistants this move has disaster written all over it.
And if this doesn't scream out to the Indiana fans how far their program has fallen then I don't think anything will.
The question is, who are the right assistants?
You need to hire former failed head coaches that are not young. Your brother who was out of the game for a while and had all his connections dry up.. And make sure those coaches can’t recruit. Then your program will be in great shape. The question is, who are the right assistants? Perhaps someone like John Thompson III would be a good option? Lots of experience and knows what it’s like to lead a prestigious program in the shadow of another coach.
I think Jason Capel fits everything they need. They should offer him a ton of money.
That’s the type of hire they needed to make, even if it’s only as someone “special assistant AD” position. Good start for Woodson.IU is also bringing in Thad Matta.
So you're Mike Woodson. And now you have Thad Matta looking over your shoulder? That's weird. JMO.That’s the type of hire they needed to make, even if it’s only as someone “special assistant AD” position. Good start for Woodson.
Agreed - Matta was their first choice, but he didn’t get medically cleared. So you're Mike Woodson. And now you have Thad Matta looking over your shoulder? That's weird. JMO.
That’s certainly something to keep in mind. However, playing Devil’s advocate, I wouldn’t consider it weird so long as Matta is medically unfit to coach and isn’t in a position to be “next in line.” I’d also imagine Woodson knew the arrangement prior to accepting the job.So you're Mike Woodson.
