The psycho-babble is the reason for the show. It's supposed to be based on John Douglas and Robert Ressler, who pioneered the art of criminal profiling for the FBI. Their work is fascinating - hence the show.I watch it but I find the psycho-babble tiresome. I have started fast-forwarding through those scenes. I continue to watch primarily just to see how many places in Western PA I can recognize.
Based on the book "Mindhunter" by John Douglas, shocker right? The psycho-babble is the reason for the show. It's supposed to be based on John Douglas and Robert Ressler, who pioneered the art of criminal profiling for the FBI. Their work is fascinating - hence the show.
It's not for everyone but I'm loving the series AND the book - amazing ground-breaking stuff that was decades ahead of it's time and a lot of the reason why they catch so many of these guys before we ever hear of them todayBased on the book "Mindhunter" by John Douglas, shocker right?
The pilot episode was lame then it gets pretty good.I watched the pilot episode of Season 1 last night and I have to say it didn’t grip me like I hoped. I’m definitely going to keep going, but some of the scenes where they were establishing Holden’s relationship with his girlfriend and other elements of his character along with the “psycho babble” definitely moved too slow for my liking.
Good to know. Yeah it wasn’t a great pilot for sure. Looking forward to continuing with it.The pilot episode was lame then it gets pretty good.
Honest confession: I always had a desire to go to Law School and become a criminal defense lawyer. I was a software developer by education but sat for the LSAT's a month before I got pregnant with our oldest. Life happens. Zero regrets but I still believe I would have made a great lawyer. Now my son has to take up the mantle of my ambitions - kind of.....As a criminal defense attorney, I think I would really enjoy this program. Thanks so much for the suggestion Pittgirl.

Hahaha - yeah seems weird since I'm pretty much a bleeding heart in real life. I just find it highly ironic that the reason I didn't go to Law School will be graduating from Law School next year. Life!See how deceiving perception is? I held you in the highest regard, until this post.
JK.
Yeah a few times, I thought about law school. I scored fairly well on my LSAT's, but wanted to do it full time and didnt have a spouse to help support me. I figured with a technical degree, and I did alot of work on export controls, and due diligence on company acquisitions and product classifications for tax codes, I might as well do it. But I didn't.Honest confession: I always had a desire to go to Law School and become a criminal defense lawyer. STOP - go back to Season 1 and watch. Although it probably can stand on its own since it is based on real life, it makes a ton more sense viewed sequentially. Also keep in mind that the majority is based on fact, but some plot lines are a "combination" of real life events and characters.About Mindhunters, a question. I watched the first couple of episodes in Season 2. But I didn't watch Season 1. Should I watch Season 1 first? Does it build on it? Stranger Things, I made sure I watched it all from the beginning before binging on Season 3. And I am glad I did. I was a bit lost with Mindhunters.
Yes absolutely watch season 1 first - it’s also curious that they’ve decided to move away from the main character’s personal life and explore a blatantly obvious “2019 let’s lure some new fans” plot line - pretty unnecessary in my book but the show is still absolute $STOP - go back to Season 1 and watch. Don’t feel bad...I double checked all my door locks after watching a few episodes late last night and heading back to bed at 1am - H2P!Watched the first 2 episodes - terrific cold opening for episode 1. A bit slow at first, but it quickly ramps up. I honestly got a bit spooked late last night so I had to turn it off.
Thanks. Yeah, that is one thing I liked.....I recognized the crimes and unsubs as mostly real, but the characters that profile and investigate are fictitious.STOP - go back to Season 1 and watch. Not really - they just changed the names of the 2 main profilers. Most (def not all) that happens with them happened in real life. They kind of spin certain plot points with a bit of fiction.Thanks.
