OT: NCAA grants all UVA football players in their last year an extra year of eligibility

I'm sure that this has happened before... uh, triple homicide of players from a single team committed by a former teammate during the season which meant the loss of two games due to cancellation.., don't think so.
NO, A PLAYER being murdered.... A PLAYER

Is it because there where 3? what if it was one or two?

But what's the criteria for this extra year? What if a player dies of cancer during the season? Every year there are players who die in off-season accidents? Should the whole team get extra years?
That's just it. There doesn't have to be a criteria. The NCAA saw this as an appropriate action because of the situation and what it could do to the program and took action. There doesn't have to be hard and fast rules. Sometimes...and I know this is something you can't possibly understand or even imagine...but sometimes, common sense and situational awareness are the best way to proceed.

Should Mississippi State players get an extra year since their coach died? Honest question.

no but if this happened 5 years ago, i think the NCAA should grant all players on that roster free transfer without sitting a year..

But with the portal, that's irrelevant now.

My god, man. Why does this bother you so much? Who cares?

Because its too arbitrary. The idea that any time a team experiences a tragedy, everyone should get an extra year is absurd. What if UVa experiences another tragedy next year? Should they get another year?

And answer my question about off-season deaths. There will be 2-3 players who die this off-season as there usually is. Should those teammates all get an extra year?

What part of, they were murdered by a former teammate, doesn't resonate?

It's also pretty comical (and telling) that you think this is too arbitrary but consistently post the most outlandish garbage on this board.

I'm asking you if players should get an extra year if a teammate dies in an off-season accident?

You're conflating the issue, now. Not close to being the same thing.

Can I ask you what is the purpose of granting them an entire extra year? They played 10 games, almost a full season. And why shouldn’t the entire team get the extra year?

I used to chuckle when someone would post a Rainman pic after one of your posts. But, there are times that I'm not so sure it's not all that inappropriate.

There are times that you seem to lack the very essense of being a normal person, and simple things escape you.

This is one of those times.

I feel bad for the players but giving JUST last year players an extra year just seems like something some NCAA intern came up with. It makes no sense. Its nice, absolutely. But it goes against the spirit of competition.

Dude. It can't be compared to a player dying from a sickness or accident. Or, a coach.

Their teammates were murdered in front of some of them. By a former walk-on that a lot of them knew.

Allow them to do whatever they think they should do for their program, and the mental health of those involved.

Just because you can't understand it doesn't mean it's not something they should have done.

Let it go.

They didn't play a full season. They were robbed of their senior day and rivalry game. Hell of a way to close a college career, with it coming to an abrupt end with 3 teammates murdered. It's arbitrary, but it's the right thing to do. Have any NCAA member institutions expressed opposition to giving them an extra year?

Did they ever discover with the motive of the shooter was? Why do I think that a girl had to be involved? Why didn’t BLM march over this?

The incident occurred all of 31 days ago, so I'm sure questions of motive are still being investigated. Your BLM question is nothing but a red herring.

Because it happened during an academic field trip ?!?
And race wasn’t the motivating factor ?!?
