It’s been a rumor for some time now that DBK wanted that job when Cook was done. Didn’t see this one coming this soon.
What’s wild is that Cook just signed an extension. Must have changed his mind.
This one really hurts Louisville.
Guy dropped the Pitt/Nebraska match news and then left. Haha.
Louisville's gutted faster than Oregon if she takes Meske with her, I'd think.
Looking like Louisville is keeping him - that's their only chance to not lose half the roster.

I’m pretty certain the chain of events was planned out ahead of time for it all to be falling like this. Makes sense.

Don't all of the Nebraska and Louisville players now have 30 days to transfer? Granted, it may not be practical given how far into the semester we are.
I think that is exactly the reason for the timing. Not really practical to enter the portal now.
If they really waited till the spring semester started to make these moves to prevent transfers, that's so sh*tty of them

How can the Lville players be suprised? Im 500 miles away from the scene and I always assumed she would take over eventually when Cook retired. If Im not the least bit suprised then how can they be? I think the timing is bad yes. I cant believe he changed his mind since the final 4 loss. Maybe NIL is creeping into volleyball and he doesnt like that either.
I would guess they're surprised it happened this year since it didn't occur right after the tournament. I think everyone in the volleyball world knew she was the heir apparent there, but Cook waiting until after the transfer window then retiring is the surprising part. The timing seems very intentional in that way.
This all looks very orchestrated with respect to the timing. Probably had planned to have Meske take over as part of all of this in order to keep all the players at Louisville (and Nebraska for that matter)
It is a shrewd business move, but also one that shows a real lack of respect for the student-athletes.

However, I don't think Nebraska's players will be upset with getting DBK as their head coach or Louisville's players will be upset with having Meske remain as their head coach.
You are probably right for most of them, but then why time the decision the way they did? Why not announce the decision, trust the players to appreciate that it is in their best interest and make an informed decision to stay?

So last night I sent my daughter a text stating John Cook has retired.
Her response: "Whoa!"
Texted her the DBK (who she hates) announcement of becoming Nebraska's next head coach.
Her response: "Bye, b*tch!"
My response: "Not so fast. Pitt opens their season with Nebraska."
A few minutes later...Her response: "Nice try. No schedule on the website."
So I send her the announcement of the August 22 game.
Her response: "Mother f*****!"
A few minutes later, she sends; "Good thing Anna is done with her 85 year college career."

Nebraska's team probably is in a better spot with this than Louisville. Their players were blindsided, judging by some of the posts.
