The NRL in Australia are considering a proposal to house their entire league on an island resort off the coast of Brisbane, and shuttle the teams via ferry to games at a closed stadium.

This sounds crazy, but it might just work. They would definitely grow the exposure of the sport as it would be about the only live sport on television, and the gambling boards.

Here is the link to a Guardian story about it.

Will this be non contact Rugby?

They plan to play the game as normal. They plan to test all the players and team staff on arrival then keep them all separated from those outside of the league "bubble". As of yesterday they were seriously considering this plan. The island resort owner has offered them the use of the entire property for this purpose.

This will be viable if and when enough same day testing is available.

They are saying that they are able to test them in advance, then will entirely isolate them among each other. It is on an island with only boat access. Apparently the testing is available enough in Queensland to do this.
