Yes this is not Pitt basketball related but since we are mostly all bored and most of the country is shutdow , I figured let me do an 80's movie poll. I'm thinking I'll do 4 or 5 more over time and the winner in each movie poll will compete for the favorite 80's movie by the Pitt faithful.

I like all of these movies and I am really torn. For me it's between Karate Kid and Back to the Future. By a hair, a hair I am choosing Karate Kid. But it's really close. I loved Beverly Hills Cop too. And really all the others, sigh...

Another good and tough one. For me, it is down to Back to the Future, Beverly Hills Cop and Ghostbusters. On a side note, I saw Ghostbusters for the first time while I was at Pitt at Freshman orientation in July of 1984 at Kings Court. For that nostalgic reason, I will pick Ghostbusters.

Some great one liners in these. "Give him a body bag", "wax on, wax off", "1.21 gigawatts", "Enchancement under the sea dance".

Gotta go with Karate Kid! Cobra Kai is one of the best things going on tv today. Johnny Lawrence has turned me onto Banquet Beer and Liz Shue has always turned me on.

young hearts beat fast.

Plus....I mean.......WWSJKD? What Would Sensei John Kreese Do? Sensei John Kreese maybe the single greatest movie hero of all time!

Think about it........look at what Sensei John Kreese did.

1) First off, a war veteran and hero, valiantly serving in Vietnam with Terry Silvers who as a Green Beret, he saved Silver's life.
2) He looked out for his students so he would not get injured and in trouble. Even when they wanted to physically retaliate, he forbid them, and told them the only honorable way to do this would be a properly officiated karate tournament.
3) He was against Japanese Imperialism, realizing Miyagi still had ties to Okinawa, an island where 10's of thousands Americans died in WWII.
4) He also tried to stop East Coast mob ties moving into the Valley, realizing Danny LaRussa was one of the youngest Capos of a NYC crime family.
5) He was a visionary. He cared. He kept kids off the streets, off drugs teaching them discipline and honor through the ancient art form of Karate.

The Breakfast Club should have been a choice.

For me its terminator and back to future a close second. To me, terminator is a classic. Nothing like it at the time. Very unique.

Daniel is THE jerk. Kind of reminds me of Kevin Arnold in the wonder years. What an asshole! (I know I know, look who’s talking)

Id go Back to the future but I enjoy the first Jennifer more than Elisabeth Shue. Woulda made the trilogy better to keep her imo.

Which has the better soundtrack? BTTF or karate kid?

80s movies where the best.
Seen each movie at least 20 times but the best ones in your list are Back to the Future and Terminator.
Just watched a couple other 80s movies... Al Pacino in Sea of Love and Three OClock High.
Sweet flicks.

The Breakfast Club should have been a choice.
Next poll. Doing 4 or 5 and taking the winner of each for a final showdown. Next poll has Breakfast Club, Wargames, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and a few others.

Scarface
Any movie with John Candy
Stand By Me
The Shining
Full Metal Jacket
80s horror best decade ever

Can’t believe nobody has mentioned Stripes specifically but I guess John Candy above covers that.

I think that might have been the first movie I saw on cable tv. Giant remote control connected with a pretty thick cable.

You have categories. I mean you have the John Hughes films. You have the SoCal ones like Valley Girl and Fast Times. The doomsday ones like Terminator and Red Dawn. The 80's Yuppie films like St Elmos, Wall Street or About Last Night and of course those down and out 80's films like Less than Zero or Bright Lights, Big City.

Raging Bull
Empire Strikes Back
Heathers
Blade Runner
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Time Bandits
Spinal Tap
Rouge (my foreign language pick)

The Shining and Full Metal Jacket were already mentioned, but I'll do it again.

The Breakfast Club should have been a choice.

Too many good ones... Caddyshack :), Scarface, ET, Full Metal Jacket, The Outsiders, Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Star Wars flicks, Blues Brothers, Vacation, Untouchables, Rainman, Stand by Me, Airplane, Diehard, and really too many to list.

That was an outstanding movie decade. Really, the 70s, 80s and 90s produced an abundance of great movies.

Revenge of the Nerds was pretty much my first porno.
Mine was Porkys. But I couldn't watch it clear, it was always waving and kind of fuzzy in my cable channels, like in the 90's. You had to special order those channels but you could still see some of the movie. The good ol days early to mid 80's.

No filters or cheater boxes? Once you had those you could just go right to the Spice channel.

I was like 7 or 8 years old I think. I don't remember what kind of cable we had but I remember every night there were games you could play with the remote control to win prizes. Monday was a music trivia game. Tuesday and Thursday there was a game called The Magic Touch. Wednesday was a sports game and Friday was something but I don't remember. There was also a game called Capture the Outlaw where if a button on your remote was blinking you were the outlaw lol.

But there were tons of previews for the teen sex films like Porky's and My Tutor and lots of others. All I know is I was pissed I couldn't watch it clear, it was always wavy.
