Like watching A Christmas Carol or in fact, any movie from many years past, whether it is Braveheart or even like The Outlaw Josey Wales or even the Godfather.

At some point.....if I let it......................real life sets in. It is something left mostly unsaid. But..............

Where and how do these people go to the bathroom? Do they bathe? How? How often? What do they smell like??

Does anyone else ever wonder this about the "olden times"?

Another question from a lapsed Catholic. If I watched A Christmas Carol or like King of Kings or Greatest Story Ever Told or even Charlie Brown's Christmas, does this clep me out of having to actually attend Christmas mass?

Well Tuco and Blondie bathed in the Good, Bad and Ugly. I may be missing the point.

i watch tombstone recently maybe it was Wyatt Earp. Kevin Costner one. A scene where he goes upstairs with the hooker, Tia Leoni And I thought, that would be sweet. Then I realized I wouldn’t have been the first one that day and she didn’t shower between “jobs”.

With those westerns, all I think about is them getting busted up on whiskey the night before and then going to sleep on the ground and waking up with a wicked hangover on the ground. No shower, just a hangover. That would suck.

They’re all probably very smelly too.
It’s all relative though. If everyone smells, you don’t notice it. If a French person walks into a room full of Frenchmen, they probably dont notice the lack of hygiene and odor where an American would have to fight of a wave of nausea.

Even if it did, I would still be there. While I attend Mass each Sunday, Christmas is my favorite Mass of the year. The Church is beautifully decorated, the sweet sound of Christmas Carols echo throughout the congregation, and the spirit of the newborn Christ fills the hearts of the people. It is as good an hour or two as I spend all year.

I think the above would only count if you’re a Protestant for Roman Catholics you need to watch The Shoes of a Fisherman or one of those Father Flannigan flicks. If you’re Russian Orthodox all you need is to watch the first part of The Deer Hunter.

My family was watching Band of Brothers with an actual vet of the Battle of the Bulge. Sis asked him what he thought of the show. His response was that it captured the monotony of it very well and even the bitter cold was somehow captured. The one thing he said couldn't be captured was just how foul everyone smelled. He said he went a full week without brushing his teeth and went more than a day without food. Try fasting without brushing your teeth some time. It's disgusting. He said one guy crapped his pants and had to wear them for over a week. Damn.

Westerners knew s*** stunk and they developed a new world. They could have figured it out.
