OT-Philly new arena

Seems like a great decision. Their deal with the Wells Fargo Center was pretty bad, and now they get full control and ownership 365 days a year, in a great downtown location with a ton more transportation and entertainment options, and it’s a new arena built just for basketball instead of one built in 1995 for multi-use.

Just read about this today. Love it. That mall is kind of dumpy as is so turning part of it into an arena and improving the rest will be great.

Personally, it will also be a fairly easy trip into Suburban station then on the Market St line for me to get to a game and not have to worry about driving.

And on top of that, it’s going to be completely privately funded. A win-win situation for all involved.

I think this is a good deal for Philly. Center City has been struggling since Covid began and maybe this can help bring some life back to it. They have some exciting higher cap projects underway as well that should help re-connect several of the neighborhoods.

I heard they are open to sharing the new arena with the Flyers. But I think sport-specific arenas are more common these days. Flyers can renovate the FirstUnion Center for their needs.
