Pretty much makes it official that this guy is a bust.

For a team like the Pirates you just cannot miss on 1.1 draft picks. Absolutely inexcusable. Also doesn't help when you can't develop a single hitter.

I thought I heard he was having a good spring? One of the beat writers said he’s improved defensively and thought he could be a good guy who could DH and catch once per week as long as Bart held onto the catching job. Obviously you’d want more from a 1-1 draft pick but it’s the pirates so…

In other news, I saw Hayes hit a home run the other day? Good to see he’s not hitting the ball straight into the ground.

he's not going to get better on the bench.

I wonder if that was a part of the thought process. If he stays in the majors he plays no more than twice a week most weeks. If he goes to the minors he's the every day guy. And with Rodriguez as your backup catcher you also have your potential backup (or starting) first baseman all in one player.

Of course the idiots haven't played Rodriguez any at first base this spring, so it might not be that. That would make too much sense for the Pirates.

I don’t follow baseball enough but I suspect the Pirates switch, or think about switching, more guys than any other team. Desparate times, I get it. But someone on the radio the other day said they were thinking of maybe looking at Suwinski at 1B because he played it in high school. So they now have Endy, Reynolds and Suwinski as possibilities.

Regardless, they gotta have the worst defensive team in baseball or close. Especially if Hayes can’t play.

I don't like this quote, I friggin love it. Because I am so tired of this memory as being bigger than it actually was.

“I’m tired of hearing about the freaking wild-card game, I’ll say that,” Skenes said, snapping off the words in disgust. “That is such a low bar to set. I get it. People are jumping off the bridge and into the river and all that for a wild-card game.”

Unfortunately, even if he pitches 30 shutouts this season they aren't exceeding that low bar.

Davis is a AAAA. No sense in sending him to the minors because he already hits the crap out of AAA pitching. Even last year ops in the minors was impressive. He needs to figure it out here.

At any rate, my expectations for him are near zero so let’s hope for the best but assume the worst.

Rodriguez has actually played first base in the minors, so there is that. With Reynolds they thought about it, and probably will again in the future, because as he has gotten older his defense has gotten worse. A move to first base would be to hide him defensively. For now they will move him to right and see if getting him away from the huge left center field gap at PNC helps him out.

With Suwinski, it's just desperation.
