I posted earlier in the year that I thought Minnesota would fire Pitino.

After a 13-3 start with wins over Providence, Alabama, Rutgers, and Illinois, they ended 2-14 including a loss to Rutgers in the B1G tourney. Pomeroy had them projected #36 preseason and they ended #109.

I thought Tubby Smith got a raw deal there. Pitino's in year 5 with an 0-1 tournament record. His second best season was his first when he won the NIT with Tubby's players.

With all the issues with his dad right now, I can't imagine why Minnesota would stick with him next season.

I've heard some people crediting Pitino with "turning Minnesota around," but Tubby Smith made the tournament his last year there. They weren't that bad. Pitino looks to be a downgrade.

He was high on many preseason up and coming young coaches lists. He has fallen off quite fast.

He did turn them around, just in the wrong direction.
LOL !

So what one liner's are all people pay attention to.
Pitino turned Minnesota around!

Wow he must be good?
Who cares about the facts like Minn went the wrong way.

That was a good one!

Go PITT & CSU Rams!

He will probably survive one more year but with the off court issues the program has experienced he may not.

Let’s face it, junior didn’t earn that job at Minnesota. His resume as a college coach was freaking pedestrian. The gophers gambled on him using his name and pedigree to attract players and get the fan base going. The Tubster had done a pretty good job with tourney appearance but Minnesota thought they could do even better.

I think his dad is a POS, and I doubt he'd even have this job if his name were Richard Jones, but the issues with his dad right now shouldn't have anything to do with whether they stick with him.

The Tubster probably getting fired as well,.

He was an assistant, including the associate HC, for his dad including the period that was vacated over the stripper scandal. It’s pretty hard to believe Rick was paying players AND others were paying strippers and Richard knew nothing about either.

At age 30 he had one year of experience as a head coach. Took FIU all the way to a 5th place finish in the Sun Belt. On the strength of THAT resume he got a Big 10 job. Yeah, I'd say his last name got him hired at Minnesota.
