I like old architecture but the city is so much more visually striking with all of the trees at the point.
This picture is a view in Jock Sutherland's heyday. I'll guess he wasn't using it as a recruiting tool.
He said “in 70 years there will be a dormitory named in my honor you should come play for me now.”
Also, recruits signed LOIs with quail pens manufacturerd from the spoils of their trip to Mount Washington. Not like the sissy facsimiles of today. Damned kids, why is it so cold in here? Who messed with the thermostat?

Thanks for sharing, just shows how much the city has changed since then. Its still so weird to see the bridges at the top of the point.
In some mills, 3/4ths of the hearths were closed down during the great depression. So that's one idea? No clue on the story on that particular photo and the general answer though.
Follansbee Steel Corporation maybe? Could only find something from 1943 where I could read it.
Possibly followed by a church?
The point was an Irish neighborhood for a while.
