"It’s believed that Williams’ prestigious hardware could collect in the neighborhood of $500,000. If that were to be the case, it would break the record for the sale of a Heisman Trophy set by the $435,763 coughed up for Tim Brown‘s 1987 award December of last year."

This amazes me that someone would pay that kind of money for it. I couldn't imagine putting another man's trophy on display at my house. But, I also don't understand wearing another man's (or kids) jersey, so maybe I'm in the minority.

I agreed with you, that is weird to buy and display another mans award.

There is a situation I could see buying it. If I owned a Texas Football themed restaurant/bar in the Austin area, then I could see buying it and displaying it. I am sure that would be a draw for people to come in the bar to take a photo with it. Not sure how much the value the trophy would be for that because I can't imagine the ROI being good at $500K, but I bet if it was a 100K it would be worth it.

He should donate it back to his U and take the tax deduction .
Oh wait that won't work he would have to have income to offset.
I doubt there will be alot of demand for this trophy.
How about a follow up post when it sells.
A good laugh is always a good thing.

dont underestimate the Texas longhorns fans, they build million dollar high school fields for goodness sakes in Texas, a faithful will buy it

yeah, i think that would be a pretty cool souvenir actually.. i disagree with the OP on this.. If i had some money (i don't) and i could buy the Tony Dorsett Heisman for my man cave? Hell yeah i'd buy that..

collectors spend tens if not hundreds of thousands on home run baseballs. that's stupid, it's a baseball, exactly like a million other baseballs made, because it happened to be the 500th or 600th HR makes it special? Why? it's a ball. Heisman trophy is a thousand times cooler than a baseball or some signed sports jersey that was never worn in the first plce.
