nothing to crow about after his stay in m-hole. its a pretty boy hire if anything. I didn't know texas hired admiral mcchrystal- former head of seal operations- as their chancellor.he was a texas grad.

Very good for WVU I think. The Dude is going to be tweeting all kinds of stuff about how great this is for WVU.

Texas controls WVU's future. Honestly, its great for them for a WVU guy in charge in Austin.

Doesn't it also say how much the AD job at wvu must really suck. He leaves it for the NCAA for an important job. Turns out it's not all that important because he wants to be an AD again. Like RichRod, he wanted out of Morgantown to go on to bigger and better things.

Would love Oliver Luck to be the next Athletic Director at Texas and bring Texas, ND, to the ACC with WVU and Temple or UConn as package!

Have a Nephew that is a Professor at Texas, says that Mack Brown left the cupboard a tad bare more than most know, and Charlie Strong is known to take time to build his own Team his way?

The Athletic Director is another matter and Texas should have hired Oliver Luck last time.

Oliver Luck is great and smart man and everyone at WVU is and should be proud he went to WVU. If Oliver had been a Pitt Alumnus or an Alumnus from any University I would feel the same.

WVU is Pitt rival and always will be, and nothing wrong in respecting the University, Alumni, and Players. I think Oliver Luck is Top Notch just like Charlie Vest and many more from WVU!

Whether Oliver Luck will leave the NCAA whereby he could be the next Head is another matter?

That's what I was thinking.

People like to talk about Pederson's handling of coaching changes. Fair enough. But Oliver Luck's handling of Bill Stewart's demotion and bringing aboard Dana Holgerson as coach in training was 100x times. Luck was saved by Colin Dunlap.

Was what? Worse. Are you serious?

Holgerson is still coach and Luck's star is rising. Steve, not so much LOL.

People look at "ties" into college football and read into it too much. Luck didn't send his son to WVU. He doesn't live in West Virginia. Sure, he came back as AD. But I mean, Darrelle Revis doesn't let up against the Steelers even though he grew up cheering for them. If the Pirates are playing the Royals in the World Series, I don't think the fact that Clint Hurdle played for them would have any bearing in the Pirates trying to win. Bobby Knight played at Ohio State, he coached at Indiana, I don't think he made decisions at Indiana on how it benefits Ohio State.

If Oliver Luck is hired as AD of Texas, he will do what is best for Texas. Period.

Well stated. WVU was just another stepping-stone in what's been a very impressive career. Check out his Wikipedia page if you wanna see a resume that will knock your socks off.

Uh, yeah. I'm guessing you only cherrypicked my post to fit your agenda.
Since you obviously need a refresher....

Despite regular season records of 8-4, 9-3, and 9-3, Bill Stewart is relieved of head coaching duties at WVU by Oliver Luck. Dana Holgerson is hired to eventually be the head coach. That's right, eventually. Holgerson will serve as head coach in training while Stewart follows "marching orders" and coaches one more year and also serving as a mentor to his successor.

Anybody with any sense knew this was a bad idea, except for Oliver Luck.

Turns out anybody was right, as Stewart went to Pirates beat reporter - and WVU grad - Colin Dunlap to see if he could dig up some dirt on Holgerson. Turns out Stewart wasn't to keen on following the marching orders after all.

As it was, it turned out Dunlap would rather save WVU than cover a MLB team. He outs Stewart, forcing Luck to do what he should have done in the first place: fire Stewart immediately. So yes, there's no doubt if Dunlap keeps quiet, that whole coaching transition between Stewart and Holgerson would have been a complete and utter disaster. Just because it's kind of worked out for WVU so far doesn't mean Luck is genius. It means he got lucky, thanks to some pro-WVU media.

I look at his tenure at WVU and wonder why in the hell Texas would consider him.
70% of the people I work with are WVU grads; they thought of him the same way most people on this board think of Pederson.

Luck did get WVU into the Big 12. He had to make sure that money was involved in that deal, and I think he will stop at nothing to make sure UT is back on top... that means seeing recruiting start to pick up (by getting more boosters and the wallets involved... unofficially of course).

True.
And that's kind of a reverse case [compared to the Stewart-Holgerson coaching situation]. While I don't think a lot of WVU fans here will admit it, they'd probably have been better off if the Big 12 did take Louisville over them. One would think WVU would be in the ACC now if that were the case, which would be a far better fit geographically. But of course, Luck couldn't known about that scenario happening.

If one son can go to Stanford then you choose Stanford. Luck grew up in Cleveland but loves WVU, and came when they needed him. Luck got his Law Degree from Texas so he has ties there too! Luck does whatever is best for anyone he is working for or with and hired Bradley when Holgrosen did not want him.

Exactly, few to none can match Steve Pederson's choosing coaches at Programs he ran, and why he is no longer an Athletic Director anywhere? Only Howland loves him and Missy State ain't hiring him either?
